Well Ben who owns Shark performance has a D5 mapped and DPF removed and it is driven hard. He also commutes 3 miles to work and gets an average of 43, mid 50's on a run.

Ratman. Similar car for my commuting (95% motorway). At steady 60, I see over 50MPG, even with winter diesel. Same route at 80 and the consumption increases by at least 20%.

Most owners with the 2.4D or D5 irrespective of 163 or 185 see mid-40s. Only a limited number achieve highish MPG.

NOTE: brim to brim is the only way to compute MPG IMO.

brim to brim I get 525miles max driven what I think is steady what does that equate to on my S60, max I got was 622miles and least 575miles. Can anyone work that out as not sure how big tank is on my V70

Default mpg?

i recently changed my 07 xc70p2 man/185.for an 09 p3 xc79 205 auto,and love it.ref mpg the 07/man was mainly in mid 40s as expected,while the 09/205 auto is 34/35 ish.i drive normaly not a boy racer(had all that on my honda cb900r fireblade)too quick for me.com.!!
having spoken to other xc owners it seems running on e tyre pressure settings and using bp ultimate seems to make a difference after a few weeks running so the car gets used to it.
ref removing dpf, does this affect it ie does it start throwing up warnings on the dash?plus what about the mot?etc.
i have just blown up tyres to eco,and will fill up with bp ultimate on thurs, and will post results in a couple of weeks.
cheers
sandy

I seem to be getting high 30's using Shell Fuelsave diesel and doing mainly motorway runs. Hoping that will improve in warmer weather and when back on summer tyres.

Default V70 d5 se sport (185) 2007 mpg - appaling!

I should have checked this out before I bought it , I know , but the MPG on the current model (intro 2007) is absolutely appaling compared to my previous model. Use to get 55 + on motorway drives as an av. and this new car at best can do 42. Tyres are up to 38 psi and I drive at a true 70.
Any ideas how to get back to something near the old model? Any retro fits that can be recomended? Love the car for everything else but this is a big negative and Volvo 'sweep in under the carpet' when asked about comparisons!

Still not sure what options are available to improve MPH. Any one have an answer to Sandy's Question (" ref removing dpf, does this affect it ie does it start throwing up warnings on the dash?plus what about the mot?etc.")

I haven't done a brim-to-brim calculation but the onboard mpg figure for ours is around 36mpg (get approx 440 miles out of a tank). This is mixed driving.

I have a 2011 diesel D5 R-Design (205bhp).
Sheeesh, My 2003 T5 gets 35 combined
