my 960 is a great heavy lump of steel as was my 240 as my head will prove having a bump on a bump until i made a split tube to drop on it when open in the cold weather, hot weather is ok as it ups the pressure in them, you can buy high pressure ones to fit and then you let some pressure out to suit via a bleed valve on the end but you have to be careful as if you let to much out you cant easily put it back

Just bought a pair of tailgate struts from Euro Carparts yesterday made my Anschler, just did a quick search on the forum and they don't get a good write up for suspension struts
Wondering if I should take them back rather than fitting them and buy some better ones. They were £15 each

You may aswell fit them now, its not a big job. If they are rubbish or fail early take them back.

Sticking my oar in again, Grab a set of struts from a MK5/MK6 escort 3/5 door hatchback. Just measure the length to be on the safe side as I've pulled a few off that been too long, off the same year. Must be whatever they've had in the bargain bin in Dagenham.
These struts are pretty potent and have got the force to smack your chin as you open the tailgate. A welcome change to having to nurse an injury to the back of the head when the tailgate suffers the droop and whaps you like a good 'un. |

If you intend to keep your volvo for a long time then the best are STABILUS on German ebay or SKANDIX have them but there very pricey

Try the escorts ones, they'll fight you every inch until it closes. But the last inch it'll drop nicely.

The Mondeo struts are much more heavy duty than the Volvo ones. I fitted Mondeo struts last year and it fires my tailgate up like a catapult! Much easier to come by and cheaper. Mine were about £12 from eBay if I remember correctly

Mundano tailgates are steel, Volvos are aluminium, aren't they? So they'd be a bit lighter.

Anyone know what struts work well on a saloon? (740) I probably just need new ones rather than an 'upgrade', but the spoiler weighs it down a bit so strong ones would be ideal.
