Thanks Coconut. I remember it now. I thought it was so you could lock the car and still tow it. Not sure why or how I got that into my head.

I'll try using it next time I park in Staplecross and see what happens.

Default Many thanks

Many thanks to all who responded to my post. In fact I'd forgotten about the posting, but looking up the topic again, I found a contributor who had identical problems - then realised it was me!
Taking the ipad out, or fully switching it OFF (I hadn't realised when I posted that you can do that, or how), seems to remove the problem, but i'll also check on bags of parking change (often kept in the car), and the internal movement sensor switch (which henceforth will also be OFF).
Thanks again, all responders.

I to have had this problem - removed all metal and still the alarm keep going off once or twice a week at around 2am.

Giving the car a good clean out last week we found acorn shells in the glove box and under the 3rd row of seats.............still trying to understand how a squirrel manged to get into a locked car with a haul of acorns.

Cunning little devils, those tree rats!!
Leaving my Peage toll transponder in the car sets the alarm off. It now has a foil pouch!
Cheers

Mine started doing this on the weekend whilst staying at a hotel. It only occurred after we loaded the bags containing the kids' Kindle fires into the car before going for a walk. Thanks to this thread it looks like it may be the WIFI capabilities of the devices that causes some kind of alarm triggering.

Ours started doing it when it started going below zero at night.

Took it too the local indy for a service, and he downloaded a software upgrade that lowered the sensitivity of the internal sensors.

Default alarm going off.............

Try chocolate baited mouse-traps.............I had a similar problem courtesy of a very cunning mouse. It managed to set off 4 traps before being caught!

Before I realised that water was coming into my car, whenever it rained hard it set the alarm off. I traced it back to water getting into the car and settling in the footwells.

Since it's been 'dry' I've had no issue. 3 months now.

My son left his ipod in the glove box without me knowing and this kept setting the alarm off Once he came home demanding ipod from the car the alarm stayed off.
