oh yes thats exactly what it is , a characteristic "air-click" type noise every time the rpm goes over 1800 rpm ... It probably fine ...

i think i may just have to resign myself to the fact that my 340 simply likes making a lot of noise....i must have had 5 or 6 people look at it now who all say they cant find anything physicaly wrong with it but who all allso agree that it doesnt sound right.......its a real head scratcher...if anyone here has any ideas feel free to let me know ...am about ready to give up ....would like to get to the bottom of it tho (its doing my ****ing head in!)

Next time I'm in the area we'll have to arrange for me to have a listen to it. I'll give you a shout...
cheers James

I'll be in touch...
Ultimately, the box could seize if it runs dry. How badly is it leaking? How many drips would you get on a piece of newspaper left under it overnight? cheers James

[QUOTE=harpulina;409371] but still seems strange being in the 30 -35 rpm range more or less all the timeQUOTE]
That sounds about right for the mechanical action BUT the vacuum sytem helps reduce rpm further , It is called the Overdrive function . The way it should work is you get to say 35 mph and it's doing 3500 rpm then lift your foot up a bit on the accelerator and the speed will be maintained yet the rpm drop away to 2000 rpm or less over a period of about 5 seconds ....
