Slighly offtopic perhaps, but I do remember Volvo raving on about that they had the fastest diesel engined car when the 2.4TD (122bhp) was for sale.
I friend of mine had a 740 with this engine and the 6-cyl noise was lovely

I've now got a 760 D24TIC and it smokes like a chimney when you start it up and stays clattery most of the time to be honest.
122bhp doesn't sound a lot - it's all in the torque figures! I like the engine to be honest but I feel mine is a little bit old and tired. Goes ok, but I don't think it quite kicks when the turbo comes in as much as it should do. And top end (above 3.5k rpm) is a bit boring aswell.

Ha ha ha!
Maybe once I eventually get it finished you could offer me a substantial amount for my converted and slightly tuned d24 tic 960 (The one below) Leather, climate and cruise control, all with the roar of a 6 cylinder diesel behind it... Priceless P.s. The definative guide to tuning these engines is D24T.com, it's done by a guy in the states, takes him ages to reply to questions but it's still helpful. Steve

The hydralic tappits are easy to replace (with the tool costing £8) and euro car parts sell them for golfs ect for around £7 each. once again the max labour should be only £60. Unless you are using a "QC" instead of a mechanic i think shopping around is the answer. |

945 tdic
Hello Peter
I have just read your last posts and I must agree with You 100% I have owned a LHD 945 TDIC Auto for the last 7 years, and have given it everything it needs IE: New injector nozzles, new hydraulic tappets, new vac pump etc. I find that it flies and is fantastic on the response when required. Long may we keep running this model. SLUGGISH NEVER |

I bought 6 new Monark nozzles off Ebay for £72, then took them to Droitwich Diesel Services and paid £50 for them to fit the new nozzles to my injectors, including setting the pressures slightly higher, and giving them a thorough clean.
Mine's the old non-hydraulic tappets. Need to get round to adjusting them one day. Also got a leak on the turbo hoses somewhere - there's a high-pitched wine aswell as the normal turbo whistle...only been happening since I did the headgasket so I reckon it's just a connection somewhere leaking.

I don't understand, do you mean can I do a write-up of the conversion? If so, I've already started a running one, search "D24 into a 960" Cheers, Steve

volvo 940 diesel
Hi, I have a 1993 940 td 6 cylinder, been really good, only bought it to do a house move, bit a trouble with the speedo not working, but stripped it and found a burned connection on the board, fixed it and all good again, done a few miles 215000 approx. was used by a old guy to move the rubbish off his farm with a little trailer, got a good mot april 2017 so although been a older bus stiil a good runner, does smoke a bit at first as with all diesels. also bit noisy but doesn't bother me, found it a bit slow round town but again never bothers me, better on a run done about 1000 miles as only had it a month or so.
