This was my solution

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showpo...0&postcount=34

It's been a few weeks since I did it and I'm happy with the improvement. I have installed the resistors and have no more bulb failure warning. I've adjusted the aim of he lights up slightly and they are a definite improvement on the originals. It's hard to think back to when I had the S40 and did a HID conversion to decide if these are better but there's certainly less risk of flicker and dead wiper motors. Here's the beam pattern on a wall

I set the factory \__ \__ beam pattern and as you can see there would be no dazzle to incoming traffic

In my old V50 with the halogen bulbs, I'd be lucky to see the cut off line on that wall from that distance. They were dreadful.

Sasha94 - your beam pattern is a bit weird, why does it look like \___/ ?
my light patterns have very defined \_\__ and no rise on the right side, unlike yours. Matter of "light leak" due to LEDs or something weird with lenses? Was it the same before LED conversion?

They've always been that way, TBH there's something up with the drivers side light as it's not the one the car was built with, it's been changed for some reason, the surrounding paint is original though from what the paint detective tells me. When really close by a wall it looks like the horizontal pattern of the beam is angled up toward the right slightly. It could be an alignment issue, could be something up with the projector, don't know but I am planning to look sometime soon.

Ah ok, so its not caused by LED bulbs then.
Did you check the allignment of this moveable shutter inside the projector lens? There is a part there that you can move when you are driving in mainland Europe to change pattern to __/_/, maybe its missing or crooked?

I haven't checked TBH, haven't had time. I imagine the shutter is misaligned from something, I am planning to look later in the week

Apart from the beam pattern they look lovely. I'd love to swap mine out from the rubbish halogens I've got at the moment. Would you mind listing what products you are running?

I can but like I said, that particular type of light bulb isn't really suitable for these cars and the resistors I bought were of very low quality so I'd rather not recommend those.

I got the bulbs from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3615578033...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Thats fair enough. I'll have a look around. I dont mind swapping out lights or keeping spares I just don't want to have issues with the wiper motor like people find with HID's.

I'm also glad I realised last night that the last time I swapped out a popped bulb I put it in the holder slightly off center. I had pretty much zero beam pattern and the driver side light output was way below the passenger side. A quick re-fit and the light was back to their rubbish former glory.
