I understand that actually you are not sure if the DIM that was in the car at the moment of the purchase is the right one for your engine. There is a chance the previous owner installed a used unit that did not had the right numbers (there are 4 numbers on the side of the DIM that must all match). Usually, if you don't have the right numbers, only the check engine light works

I would try in the first place to find the right numbers that go with your specific engine. You can try looking on Ebay for the DIM that are on sale from the same engine and model year as your vehicle, so you know what are the exact numbers that should be in your car. From there, if the DIMs that you already have have the right numbers, send them to a forum member called Sputnik or something like this. He can repair them for not much. Try sending first the one that was in your car because that one has the right miles on it. It is the right way to fix this issue, because buying a replacement one is risky because all of the 2002-2003 ones that are compatible with your vehicle have or will develop the issue. Once you get your fixed the right way by an electronics technician, the problems are over. I drove with mine completely dead for one year, I already have 2 more spare DIMs, but finally I went and had one fixed by a guy who knows electronics and now my problems are over.

The orginal DIM has 2248 number as so does programmed recondition one. From what I can see I think 2248 is right for year of my car.

Might take mine out anyway as my issues sound slightly different on reflection. Was it much fun doing the cleaning? Any words of wisdom on how to do it? Don't want to spend any more time than necessary crippling myself in the footwell, already got a sore hip after falling over the other day, must sound like I'm 67 not 27 lol

What is the engine and what is the last lower number with three digits and one letter on the DIM? If I remember well, the CEM issue was affecting more the 2004-2006 models.

Cleaning CEM was just fiddly didn't help that it was dark and cold when I was taking it out. There is few videos on you tube on removal.

Had the original DIM repaired on my car and it has fixed all the problems. Cartronix did a really good job on fixing the unit.
