This is not exclusivly a volvo issue more brands are suffering from this....
This is what you get if you vote for bureaucrats and brainwashing fairytailes about "climate" . Tightening regulations about the "poisoning" co2 which makes them do counterproductive measures that only reduce a fraction of a percent co2 on paper and in practice it hightens it and makes it all more expensive. 150 parts pro million higher than pre industrial times apart of the discussion if this is responsible for the change which happens even before our times without our ïnvolvement ....even if we slow the extraction of fossil fuels out of the ground, it will eventually be all dug up.....because we dont need it only for transportation... but for countless other things like fertilizer , chemicals...plastics and countless other things we all take for granted in modern life . The earth hasnt been greener in vegetation because of the rise of those ppm s Also agriculture grows better with somewhat higher co2, its nutrition!. If people werent so mentally lazy we had a chance that this doesnt add up at all with a bit logic But we have to trust the "science"? theirs? the puppet master in Switzerland? with a lenin buste in his bookcase, and brags about how many governments they have penetrated . These are dangerous times where social pressure is being used to coerce you to being reduced as the people in china as producing obeying robots and censorship. Its all about control not the "climate" or whatever they try to scare you with (remember recent times and what is being used to seize the opportunity for their craved agendas?) And look at what they are doing besides their talking what you have to do....they eat their steaks ,ride their rolls royces ,fly their private planes and heat their castles near the coastline (scared of the rising sea?). And all "ḧighly educated" people vote for their corrupt lying handlers for a few promised bear bones . and start voluntary policing each other which all legalize this idiocy. I bet they are all belly laughing behind their cuban cigars and rightly so! People get exactly what they deserve. it was a generalisation nothing more......but waste the energy on the messenger.....and if people read it or not or the post deleted... i dont care....it has been always been this way and it will always be this way.... human nature!

D4 Engines Oil Consumption
Hi!
Just wanted to share my story of Volvo world. I have been driving Volvo s80 for the last 13 years starting with the good old D5 163hp which I bought at 134k and drove it all the way to 285k. Not even a Clutch change or turbo or anything just steering rack once and 1 Turbo Pipe…. Changed carsh to Auto but still the D5 163hp and never any problems. I moved on to the D5 185hp (newer shape) drove it to around 215k no problems at all… And then I made the mistake of Buying the s80 2014 D4 Auto. Thinking it would be much more echonomical but it was the biggest mistake….. bought it at 100k and after 120k it started consuming oil. As other ppl have mentioned it started 1/2Littrre after every 1.5k or so and then it went to the point that every 500 miles had to topup 0.5 litre when it was around 140k milage on the clock I had been to local mechanics changing litte things like This sendor that sensor £300 here £450 there but car was the same… I was fed up with all this and decided to take my car to the main dealer where after explaining all The problem the assured me the the car would be repaired for Sure…. Anyway after 2-3 days they called me saying the car was all Repaired as they haf to change the Inlet Manifold and few other bits and the bill was £1275. Brought the car back and after 2 days I realised that the car was not only still Consuming oil but actually started to get into Limp Mode and would have a lot of smoke 🤦*♂️. So I called the Main Dealer Volvo and they said they were expecting it to happen as a knock on effect from the repairs they fid so they needed to change another filter and that was another £380… Brought the car back and didn’t even reach home before the car went into Limp mode again…. End of story is that I went to Main dealer again where I was told that it Might be time To sell/change the car as it was very high Milliage at only 143k so I was very disappointed but had no choice to change car so I part exchange it at Volvo again and Bought a 2014 D5 215hp Auto again from Volvo at 48k millage…I drove that all the way to about 200k with no problems at all untill I started to have some problems with the DPF regenerating all The time hence MPG dropping dramatically…. I yook it to couple of local mechanics but they couldn’t understand the problem So I just sold it as spare repairs….. So all this was enaugh yo say Good Bye 👋 to the Volvo World as the next option would be a S90 d4 or d5 where both are 2littre 4 cylinder engines so not as good and reliable as the Good old 5 Cylinders 4 months ago I’ve bought a 2017 w213 Merc E Class 220d with 60k millage on it….. Im happy with the car at the momemt but never feels as Confortable to drive as the Volvos or it could be just me keep comparing it to the Volvos but I have to say I miss the Volvos….. So its a shame if all this issues are putting ppl off buying Volvos…. I hope this issues are resolve |

Volvo have resolved the issues, they have dropped diesel. Then petrol will disappear and as we know all electric. Once there out of warranty your on your own. Worst case they might have a few short engines to shell out for but it won’t be every car and if the probs don’t arise to 100k miles well they are not going to be interested at all. There are going to be some very expensive drive ornaments or cheap cars which ever way you look at it. A garage that can reliably and properly sort them out for a reasonable amount will do well out of it if it gives the customer another 100k miles.

I think its not only a drainhole issue , its also a springload issue in the rings , they had become weaker ("less"friction) (not only volvo ask vw for example )for ......drumroll a microgram of co2 on paper for the climate
That issue alone without blocked drainholes raised the oil consumption in itself already dramatic. And lower viscosity (also for the climate) slips by the weaker rings even more easily, and cokes up and get caught by the drain holes . So i dont think 0w20 prevents this problem . Only stronger rings with sufficient big drain holes will prevent this |

Dieselgate
I like the previous suggestion of dieselgate.
I have had 35yrs of Volvos. All sorts, work and home. The D5 has been an astonishing engine. 250k with ease in different versions. It has been such a resounding success story I am not surprised we are all finding it hard to swallow the VEA 2.0. There are long lists of faults, piston design, seal leakage, balance shaft etc. I tend to believe most of them, as I have seen a lot so far. My biggest dilemma is what else instead. Merc have a litany of issues, Audi/VW plenty of problems, BMW have made some awful and very good engines and Ford is not perfect. Come to mend ion Ford they are responsible for the manufacturing of Volvo for a while and plenty of plastic bits appeared where once was metal and to me, a lot more cabin road noise. So less sound proofing. So I have no idea where to go next. They all seem to be equally value engineered (cheap!). I specifically bought a post piston modification D4. It leaked like a sieve but I hope will do 200k. It gets oil changes at 9k as my old school engineering just can’t believe 18k can be good for any engine despite modern synthetic oil engineering. And what else can I do in a ULEZ zone? Mmmmmm maybe that 1970s 245 estate is looking like a good option again?
