Thanks for your additional comments. My view is that 99.9% of the time anything round and rubbery will probably do.

it's the remaining 0.!% of the time that's the life and death stuff and I feel it's worth paying for decent rubber that will cope best with the unpredictable. I doubt you'll go far wrong with any of the better established brands (given they're not fakes).

However new brands do come along and they can be excellent just as old favourites can fall from grace. I also suspect that if we had to drive today on the tyres we were using 25 years ago, most of us would have a fit!

I'm not sure how anyone can have an opinion about tyres. I would have thought that the many different profiles would make the most difference to how a tyre performs. no one ever seems to mention this. I have only ever bought the cheapest tyre I can get my hands on and the deepest profile for road comfort. For my 850's and V70's they cost around £35 each fitted and balanced.

I have had cars with expensive tyres on when first purchasing a car, but never noticed any difference in the way the car handles or indeed road noise! I drive cars that are over 20 years old and drive them how they should be driven, which is carefully, as I want them to last me a long time. Anyway, as they say, each to their own!

Somebody gets it... it's all rhubarb. There are those above 'us mere mortals' with the ability to 'feel' one tyre over another. These super-beings are multi-millionaires and household names. Even those blokes won't be doing that on a public road, (or need to).

In fact, if you're paying much over £400, it's not me that points to a lack of alleged talent, those insurance quotes are proof.

In short, we're on here. That's an admission right there. We're already saying we can't drive? Opinion on tyres, from who? Really?
