I could probably stretch to 300miles towing a 1900kg caravan with our XC90 B5 leaving another 100miles solo and not having to worry about using climate control, heated seats etc.

Recent trip on M42 & M5 towng at a steady 60mph we passed a few EV's who were taking it very steady, my first thought "range anxiety"

Then off you pop fully charged to endure some more range anxiety. That sounds like a great way to start and finish a holiday! |

….or you could overcome the inefficiencies in the generator, charger and battery by just connecting the output of the Diesel engine to the cars wheels?

Thank you for the explanation, 'Tannaton'. Please excuse my naivety; clearly a so-called 'suitcase' generator, such as the one that we had on our boat, which I envisaged, would be totally unsuitable for the purpose.
Ah, well ... back to the drawing board! Regards, John.

There roadsides will be littered with EVs surrounded by solar panels slowly charging them enough for them to reach the next over priced non working/non compatible charging point. |
