If the base car is good and you intend to keep it for a few years then its still well worth paying out for a conversion. The added bonus will be that the system will be brand new and less prone to break down. You can always remove the LPG system and transfer it onto your next car too.

Just dont do what ive done, get to the point where the LPG system has paid for its-self and now saving you money, then trash the car!!
Tim: I think my LPG system is pretty basic, single point system or something, would this transfer onto something like a 940, with its more complicated injection system, or would I have to go for a more complicated multi point LPG system?

Re: fuel consumption
I hate to say this, but if you can't afford the juice, get something smaller!
LPG just ruins the performance, and robs the boot of a whole mass of space. Cheers, T

Hi,
Quote:
If people are unhappy about that, they need to consider smaller cars, or consider the long term investment over a newer car against the lower investment in either a 940 or 960/90 and how far one can drive with the money saved... Although the government is continually trying to reduce this!! However, I have a pretty good feeling that LPG doesn't reduce performance (if correctly installed and tuned) as the octane rating for LPG is much higher than that for petrol. Something like 105 or 106 I believe?? Des. . .

Re: performance loss
hi Des,
Frankly, I know nothing of the equivalent octane rating of LPG, but somewhere I have back to back performance figures published by Autocar for the same cars running on the one hand on petrol, on the other LPG, in general terms the loss of performance is in the order of 5 to 7 per cent. But the point I made, and you backed up is the most valid: if you think it drinks too much, you can't afford it. (A point often made by an old friend's father who used to run a '66 Pontiac Parisienne 327cu = 8 to 10 mpg) Cheers, T
