Did a 450 mile trip over four days the week before last, hence the nice figures. The rest of my mileage is pottering about with the occasional longish trip thrown in. I am currently averaging about 14k per year. I keep the speed at or below 70mph on the motorway - why rush when you can spend a few minutes longer enjoying the car :-) and it does make a significant difference to the fuel consumption. |

The XC60 is just ok IMHO on these two points, the lack of a footrest is annoying and as I drive 3000 miles a month is noticeable on occasions but would not stop me buying another XC60, the car is bloody superb. You would not be disappointed. |

I agree - footrest is a deal breaker!
Hi Stranex - I'm new to this forum and not sure how active this topic still is, but I just wanted to say I fully agree with you about the foot rest. I've driven and owned lots of cars and a few cars ago I promised myself I'd never buy another one without a footrest. Now, I am on the hunt for my next car with an expanding family in mind. Something quality, with a reasonably high driving position, decent luggage space and not too big (X5) or too small (Qashquai) in dimension. The XC60 was looking favourite after a vast amount of reading and research, - a manual 2.4 AWD (163) looked the ideal choice (ideally I would like a 2.0 version with AWD - shame they don't offer one). I sat in a manual for the first time today only to find....no footrest. My other cars have footrests. I am seriously put off by this being 6ft tall and knowing it will irritate me. I am not keen on the auto as I like a manual box and the economy it brings. I am now having a rethink - looking into Tiguans (fear a bit small, but perfect driving position) and X3s (looking like the favourite). What a shame - I really had my mind set on one. My only chance is if the 2014 MY released yesterday has put this right, but I'm not expecting it...

I seems a small issue on which to base a purchase, but you pays your money and you takes your choice.

I have one in my auto and rarely, certainly not when on cruise as my feet sit comfortably on the floor - and I am over 6'

But surely comfort is very important when you choose a car. I think a lack of footrest is an issue that should be addressed, I know I notice it still after 13k miles. My car gets replaced next July and whilst I like it very much and may get another the footrest is a definite mark in the minus column.

Ironic thing is LHD Manuals do get the footrest, the problem lies in the conversion to RHD.

Very few rhd volvos get a footrest I doubt any do in fact that are manual. Never actually seen one with. Saying that I never bother either way although it is noticeable hopping from a the Volvo to the mx5 which despite having a gearbox and prop shaft in the way has one.

I would be totally lost without a foot rest.
Would not know where to put my left foot. It must be close to 30 years since I last owned a manual car and all the auto's have had a rest, whether they be Merc's or Volvo's. tem.

Lack of footrest
I changed from an octavia to an S60 10 weeks / 3500miles ago and haven't missed the footrest. This may be because I use the (brilliant) adaptive cruise control on motorways.
I'm 6'3" and v comfortable in the car! But I do miss the handbrake for the left hand beside a gear stick. I have to reach forward as I am old fashioned and do not hold the car on the foot rake. My Dad's Renault has an electric handbrake where the manual used to be ( by the gear shift) and feels more natural Also Who tucked the fog light switch out of sight - it is a fumble to switch it on and distracting to find an occasional switch when visibility is dropping. Otherwise love the D4 SE Lux S60 (50+mpg after 3k) David |
