Wink Fuel choice for the discerning T5 owner

Hi all,

i started a similar thread to this a few months ago when i first got me new motor. Been run on 95 RON by the previous owner...so i continued for a tankful.

Since then, i have run on Optimax 98....Tesco 99....Sainsbury's Super 97....and (forcibly) back on 95.

My conclusions....hmmmmm....car runs okish on 95...had to use for a return from the IOW holiday....car loaded to the gunnies...not as smooth and an obvious loss of power - ran down on Tesco 99 ...

Optimax....didn't notice much difference...although to be fair...this was the first fill up after a year plus on straight 95.

Tesco 99....nice!! Very smooth, noticable power increase...fuel consumption about the same as normal Unleaded...but not bad as pedal gets pushed more!

Sainsbury's 97....again not bad. Smooth and better poke than the Optimax.

So....Tesco 99 first choice...followed by Sainsbury's 97.

Have not tried the new V max yet...hope it's better than Optimax.

If you have to fill up on 95....don't panic, but only put in as much as you need to get you to some better fuel!

Cheers lads...and girlies,

Joe 90.

that may be your problem, optimax is generally considered by many to have the best mpg ability, however its cost is its achillies heal...
cheers

Sorry to hear there's that much difference in price down where you are, warm weather kills mine mate less oxygen in the air don't you know, agree with the hot starts, engine warmers come to mind as used in Sweden etc. and open roads wherever they are? These days lol. Each to their own.

I ran a full tank of Shells V-power today at RAF Marham, and it didn't disappoint. It's only 1 octane more than Optimax was, but if you've got a turbo'd motor, it shows at the top end. I maxed out my speedo (over 160mph) and it was still pulling. Only Tesco 99RON has ever come close to it, but I didn't have a track handy to try it out on. Trust me, I don't like paying £1 per litre, but if you can afford it, V-power is the one to go for.
