Volvo also clearly list the limiter here: http://accessories.volvocars.com/Acc...ent/VCC-463627

Part no 30760164

So, next time I'm out in the car and remember, I'll check for the limiter...

I wonder how big a job it is to remove?
The limiter on Gen 3 is different to the Gen 2. The Gen 2 limiters (I believe) were external in that they were mounted as an external "bump stop" sort of device. The Gen 3 limiter is mounted "inboard" on the actual steering rack. I had mine taken off by my local dealer. You need to undo the steering rack gaiter and then basically break off the plastic ring that is the limiter. Now, whilst that is fairly straightforward in itself, it seems it's not possible to get new gaiter ties as a separate item, you can only get them as part of a gaiter replacement kit. My gaiters kept coming undone and eventually the dealer had to put large jubilee clips on to keep them to stay put!

So, to summarise:
Removing the limiters per se is relatively simple.
Refixing the gaiter is not so straightforward.
You can't tell with a visual inspection whether limiters are fitted.

I've posted on this subject and on wheel widths quite a bit over the past few years and I recall posting a link to the Volvo fitting instructions which were quite good but I don't have the time to look for it just now!

Subsequent searching turned up some of your posts on the matter, so thank you for that. I found volvo's fitting instructions also, so i saw it's not something I would attempt.

I still haven't got around to checking if ours has it fitted...

So, I remembered to check this morning, and ours DOES have the limiter fitted - but unecessarily, given that we have Balders and 225/50R17s.

Tommy - Given that you've done it, would you bother with getting the limiter removed again, based on what you know now?

I had it done by the dealer for about £100. If you are happy with the turning circle as it is then I'd leave then I'd leave them alone. If you want a bit extra lock then I think it makes a noticeable difference without the limiters.

The other questions is, giving the amount of work involved in refitting them, what is the chance of you changing wheels to a 245 width size?

Ha ha. You do know Fortuna's or Ixion's would look great on your car.

Despite the many reasons that 18s are never going anywhere near our car (ride quality, noise, tyre wear, ride quality, tyre cost and ride quality), there's also the factor that nothing diamond-cut is ever going on our car either (after what happened to my Accord's Epsilons, and my parent's landcruiser wheels are going the same way also).

Fortunas and Ixions fall into both

I think you forgot about the ride quality.
