Yes it's the square one and is a 2.8 (carb) Ghia auto. I wanted a second car as a 'hobby' to tinker with and gradually do up. I ended up doing a rolling restoration over about 6 years, although the car was on the road the whole time. I like the shape of the Granada - it's a proper traditional 3-box saloon shape with big chrome bumpers! I also like the selection of lights on the front - got to have separate fogs and spots - don't really see driving lights much nowadays... My mate's dad used to pick us up now and again in his Mk2 2.3 Granada GL when I was young and I thought it was a cool car back in the mid eighties....much better than our Datsun! Couple of pictures attached. I'm looking to get the TRX metric alloy wheels redone in a powder coated chrome finish soon which I think will suit the car well. Nice.Do you think the earlier smooth rear lights were better than the later ones?
I like both, although think the earlier ones were 'just right' Regards ps are you on Adams forum? |

I like the pre-facelift models as well - there were actually hundreds of differences between the two series - slightly different doors, different windscreen, interior (pre-facelift interior was largely carried over from the MK1), suspension tweaks, bumpers, trims etc. etc. I think the earlier ones looked cleaner and a bit more elegant. They are also VERY rare now - just seen there's a nice one on ebay. They don't come up very often. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ford-grana...item3cce570b21
I also owned a 3.0 mk1 Granada for a few years in Nevada Beige. Wish I had kept it now, but I needed the money to sort out my mk2 properly.... There will be a Granada meet at the ACE Cafe in London this May which I hope to attend. The first one was held there last year and was very good. I'm not sure what Adams is - will have a google... In 1989 I bought an 86 C reg VW passat estate, it was quite cheap as it had higher than average milage, we bought it to cart all the baby things around. The recession hit not long after and money was very tight so the car got next to no attention, as the valve stems got worn it would burn a little oil so I just topped it up and went years without doing a proper oil change, at times the exhaust was held together with tin cans, in the late 90's the timing belt skipped a few teeth due to the bearing in the tensioner collapsing so I put on a new belt and off she went again (it actually ran for a few weeks with the old belt on a few teeth out!). Eventually when the MOT came up in 1999 there were so many things in need of attention, including the worn valve stems, that I decided to scrap it, even then it would still start reliably every morning. Given the total neglect it suffered for so many years I think it has to be my most remarkably reliable car. There don't seem to be many mark 1 Passats around now, it was a slightly cheaper alternative to a Volvo at the time and many of them are still running as we know, I sometimes wish I'd kept the Passat and sorted it out but then I often feel like that about many of the cars I have owned, but I don't have a big enough garage for that.

Never had any doubts of any of my Volvo's starting and getting where I need to go.
