My local dealers ( both now and historically Marshalls Group) have been.... hit and miss I suppose for both purchase and service. I have often used a Cumbria based dealership for service in the late 2000's to mid 2010's for service... they were so good I bough a vehicle from them.... for my most recent purchase ( Jan 2022 - a zero miles 'care by volvo' return XC90) the deal was local, and as 2 services were included i gave them a try. Not with my cash! - I will be going elsewhere ..due to poor reception service, car left uncleaned, book not stamped no follow up call etc ( rectified by a return visit though - not the point.)

I bought my V50 from Marshalls, should have remembered from my experience with their Land Rover franchise. The transaction started alright, but rapidly went downhill on collection, especially when the workshop got involved. The service plan with them got rapidly cancelled and transferred to Bells in Bedford. It was a bit concerning when I first arrived at Bells and found their neighbour was another Marshall Land Rover. Fortunately when I asked they confirmed there was no connection between them and Marshalls.

I’ve always found them excellent, knowledgeable and friendly - I’d have no hesitation recommending them; whilst they’re now Holden the team are the same and I hope the excellent service continues. You can now buy a Volvo through Holden Norwich but have it handed over in Bury St Edmunds, I was advised the reason for the loss of new car sales was as described above, the investment required but at the same time moving away from dealership sales didn’t justify it.

Service next Thursday, wonder if they now have new courtesy cars or whether I’ll get the first gen V60 D4 with the ‘V60 NEW’ number plate (or a SEAT…)
All the dealers were advised of these new standards requirements and plans over 15 years ago , quite a few have dropped out now though, most were well respected dealers, the ones that are left are mainly multi dealer owners such as Waylands for example, but I don't think it is cost which is the reason for these dealers dropping out they have had all that time time to plan for the change, many have been in the business for many years and probably retiring !
