Not as powerful as a T5 at the top end of the rpm range, but probably as good or better at low RPM due to small responsive turbo.

And if you do need more power, a simple remap will see 250-260bhp which is realistically all the power you'll ever need.
Is the 2.5t fitted to the v70 the same lump as the V50 T5?? I notice that a few of these 2.5t V70 pop up for sale but they are listed as 200bhp compared to the 225 bhp of the V50

Yeah it's the same incarnation as the V50 just detuned to 200bhp/320nm initially, but later ones (2009 onwards I think) were up to 231bhp/340nm.

For me it would be a V70 T5 phase 1, amazing engine, properly quick for a big barge, really miss mine but unfortunately it was at a time of life where I couldn't afford to store it.

The phase 2 is good also, the phase 3 is a not so much fun to drive, more of a cruiser.

I've just bought a Phase 1 V70 (2.4 170bhp) and it goes pretty well so Id imagine a T5 would feel very quick in this car.

Thanks for the info.
Are you measuring this via the car's computer or at the pump?
As this is the kind of MPG I get when calculating MPG using trip meter and how much fuel it takes when I refill the tank:
23.4 Filled car to brim, ran to almost low fuel warning, then used total fuel filled to calculate mpg
29 mostly a/b roads
23.9 Mostly to work and back
33 - mostly commuing and some motorway
23.95 mostly to work and back and flying
23.58
25.92 had added fuel injector cleaner in this tank of fuel ( STP brand )
29.7 Lots of motorway miles
26.59 Roughly half tank left according to guage
31.66 Mostly motorway miles
25.99 mostly town
27.11 mostly town and a trip to London
30.17 mostly motorway miles with E driving hard part of the way
24.92 mostly town
30.45 Lots of motorway miles
27.45 mixed
25.29 town
25.39 town
31.1 Lots of motorway miles
23.39 town
22.5 town
25.97 mixed
22.91 mixed
32.02 mostly motorway

Car is a 2002 Volvo V70 2.4 n/a auto

Journeys are approx 120-200 distances 80% motorways.

These economy figures are far better than most achieve with an Auto.
As a comparison my 2014 V70 D5 manual returns 50+ on the same journeys. ( but is not as much fun )

Cheers
Bob
Thanks for the info, always easy to forget how much difference a manual box makes to MPG

I always calculate it myself from warning light to warning light using the taco vs. petrol receipt

I've found with previous cars the dash readout can vary greatly from nearly right to pure fantasy

I've yet to actually try it in my current car (which doesnt have a mpg readout anyway) but the weekly commute is costing pretty much the same per week as my previous which worked out to about 32mpg. Saying that this was back in the long-ago times when people used to go places and the traffic was slower

The T5 feels significantly quicker because of the turbo, for a while I used a V70 2.4 170hp and V70 2.3 T5 and when you got back into the 2.4 it felt so much slower and kept waiting for the turbo to kick in! The induction noise of the T5 was a splendid growl as well, it is the only car I miss and regret selling on (but the CV joint and clutch had both failed and couldn't afford to repair it)
