I'm currently after an estate myself - I have a Volvo 240 saloon, full service history, two owners from new, it's had the front suspension changed to adjustable GAZ GAI inserts, Lesjofors 40mm springs.. Not sure KGF would be interested. Interior is in excellent condition (owned by an elderly single gentleman before me).
It's a daily driver however.. So without it I'd be marooned. Tim |

Actually, should all these requests not be posted via the official traders link?
Admins - I have noticed in the past that requests from all sorts of dealers have been, quite correctly, subject to the forum rules on traders. Surely this sort of request - that this company often posts - should be treated in the same way?

KGF1 have applied for and received Trader status so there is no issue there. As for whether these post should go into the Trader's Offers & Discounts area? Well it's not a generic item they are selling or a discount on their product, they're looking to buy a specific Volvo model so it would seem to make sense to post in the relevant section. However we note your view and will have a discussion to see if there is a better way of doing this.

I think most people are aware they are trying to profit from buying up the best examples it's called being in business, but nobody is under any obligation to sell to them just because they have asked!

It's up to the individual to decide if they want to make a private sales, sell into the trade or engage someone like KGF1 to sell on commission on their behalf.
Karl will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he has worked as selling agent to help sellers achieve the best offer for their vehicles.

In light of this it is not surprising that specialist dealers are becoming more interested. They would be daft not to. For those of us who regard them as workhorses and daily drivers this process further hastens 'the end' as they slowly but surely move firmly into the 'classics' camp. Still quite a few cheap 700 and 900 series about though. When I have worn out my current daily driver (1992 240 Estate - which I average 1K per week in, so about another 2-3 years I think) then I think I will move over to one of these. A much cheaper alternative. Always good to keep a nice 240 as a second car of course! Just my 2p's worth

Am I the only person who thinks it would be helpful if KGF added to their forum 'fishing' post by including the price range for an outright purchase of a 200/300/700 series etc car? After all, it's not that difficult for them - they know what margin they need to make and what the current market value is. Ok, they'll need to differentiate between different models etc which will require some work. They can always add the rider 'we will pay more for truly exceptional low mileage examples' to give themselves room to manoeuvre. Why? Because it will result in a forum discussion which should result in potential sellers becoming better informed prior to negotiating a sale.
Currently, it's too one sided for me (I'm waiting for a response to my earlier post, but I'm not holding my breath). To my mind, there's a danger VOC, via the forum, could be perceived as not acting in the members best interest if club members responding to forum 'fishing' requests are under informed and sell too cheaply. Better the trader is requested to provide more information, as a condition of posting on the forum, than VOC officials spend more of their spare time maintaining an up to date price quide. Last from me on this subject. |

I just don't get this forum. One minute sellers are getting shot down for asking too high a price for a 240 with comments like I only paid £500 for mine and they are not worth any more than £1000 etc etc. Then we have a company come along looking for classics in top condition to sell on. I am not aware of a single person receiving a low offer for a car from KGF.
They manage to get higher prices due to presentation and offering a warranty. The will also sell cars on a commission basis. There is no pressure for anyone to sell to them. Selling to a dealer can be a good way to get a quick hassle free sale. Will you get the best price well clearly no but also on the other hand you are very unlikely to get the price the dealer does. I don't think they can give a set price range for every model as price will vary with exact condition, millage, history model year and even the exact variation of the model. Everyone's opinion of what mint is will vary, I have seen rough cars described as mint and some cars that look like they have just come out the showroom being described as only tidy. It would be nice to have some feedback from someone who has sold a car to KGF just to confirm what they are like to deal with. |
