Default Hot box?

I think they are something to do with the 'dim dip' day running lights. They are a type of resistor I think. Some sage will confirm this or put forward a more knowledgable answer.

your problem is very similar to mine , i have cleaned the maf and the pcv pipework , i noticed 1 of the intercooler pipes was perished so i have taped it up with self amalgamating rubber tape (screwfix £ 2 something for 10 metres) and has run like a dream today , stable idle and i can floor the throttle without the engine dying, might be worth having a look at your pipes

ok... stab in the dark here... it's fixed many problems with other makes of car and not just volvo

remove and replace the ignition relay with a brand new one, they're only a couple of quid... when OBD II was being introduced into cars not all sensors were readable by the 'new' code readers... and if there was a fault it was hard to isolate a problem... the ECU stores fault codes, but on the earlier cars which had OBD II installed, the ECU would be purged of all fault codes if the ignition relay had an intermittent fault, this resulted in no codes being present when read... EU officials requiered car manufacturers to install OBD II into all cars by 2002 (OBD II = On Board Diagnostics Phase 2)

I discovered this when I started my 940 Wentworth after a service and forgot to re-connect the MAFF sensor wire and the Lambda light came on... to clear the fault code I purged the ECU by turning on the ignition, pulled the ignition relay, switch off the ignition, back on without the relay in, and then off... replaced the ignition relay and started the engine... ECU was purged and no Lambda light...

also get it compression tested as suggested earlier in this thread as the red blocks are a little well know for head gaskets going between 2 & 3 as that is the hottest part of the engine (middle)

Don't give up on the old girl... she'll be worth it... she's testing your commitment to her... just like a real woman does...
