Hi Martin,

I've only just started reading this forum but already I can see you are clearly a well-respected expert on the technical side of things.
I would like to know if one of these custom ECUs you supply would get me out of a hole I'm in right now with a V70 I recently bought at auction without a key or fob for it. Would one of your boxes be a means of getting it back on the road again, do you think? I can't really go down the proprietary main dealer route as there are none on the Isle of Man where I live. Your thoughts would be much appreciated, many thanks in advance.

It's a 2008 D5 manual.

Then unfortunately my friend I cannot help. These are for 1995-1999 cars. Try asking for help in the relevant assertion for your year of car, I'm sure someone will have an answer to your problem.

With no key or fob....how did you get home ? And as Martin has pointed out you are in the wrong section for a 2008.

Yes, I'm still feeling my way around here; the number of model sub-forum divisions is unlike anything else I've seen elsewhere. I think I spot the right one now, though.
I got it home on the back of a low-loader; had to be Hiabed off as everything was locked up and immobilised. Nightmare!

Ah, I rather feared that would be the case. Thanks anyway, Martin.

Try in this one - http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=112

But I think you'll find you need to get the car to a Main Dealer for them to program a new fob to your car (and delete any already coded to it).....not cheap I'm afraid to say........and there might be more problems ahead.....once it can be opened and started Engine/gearbox problems and the list could go on..... I hope it all turns out well....but.

Yes, it's quite possible there may be other issues. I don't want to spend another bean on it until I've established that the engine/gearbox etc are in good working order. To this end, the current plan is to rip out the EMU and sub it for a Raspberry Pi (just to run the engine & check the wheels go round). I've ordered one of those Vida DVDs to get the gen on the injectors; can't do anything until I know what their working characteristics are. All good fun! Just wish the weather was a bit warmer!

Thanks for the forum pointer, btw!

Hi,

Just bought a 99 V70 TDI with the later ECM msa15.8. Is this linked to the immo or interchangeable? It for sure has its ETM swapped because the VIN that Vida reads differs from the car's VIN.
I'd like to have cruise control and probably easier and cheaper to buy an ECM with CC activated than reprogram it at the dealer.
