That's the Volvo one, p/n 986831 but check with your local Volvo dealer. Failing that, ebay for an aftermarket one.

Thanks Clan. I often wondered why non of my metric sockets were the right fit and I always had to dig out a 1” AF. I always use a new copper washer (18818, bought from dealer when buying the oil filter. Washers from the factor are too thin and not a good fit.) I use Dave’s tightening regime, finger tight plus a bit. Then check later for any weep.

9 years using a 25mm socket, no damage to the sump bolt.
Still about 55 Nm. I'll say the same in another 9 years.

Been using a 25 mm socket on mine since I've had her. Never used a torque wrench on it either. I do every 3k and it's been fine.

It comes in handy having a Kamasa set with metric imperial and whitworth, also has a speed brace which I use constantly.
I can't remember if I use a 25 or 1" socket but always a new copper washer and 60nm and the last time I did it I used some PTFE thread sealant for good measure. |

Well, I missed this resurrected Thread 'till now.
Of the countless sump plugs I have removed and replaced (with the right size spanner/socket as long as the head has not been deformed!!) I have never torqued them back down/in. Just done it by feel! I am happy to use the same copper (or whatever) washer if it looks OK but will replace if I have a spare. I have never had a problem with leaks or the plug falling out. Bob P.S. - I forgot to add that cleanliness is essential for the whole area - plug, washer and its seat!! Last edited by bob12; Mar 4th, 2020 at 20:04. |
