I do recommend the super-white bulbs though, they are certainly an improvement on standard.

I've upgraded the standard halogen bulbs to Osram, Phillips, or even the Halfords own brand super bright bulbs in the last 4 cars. Made a big difference, especially on dip beam. You'd get away with just changing dip beam, and keep the main beam as is. You can get 100W lamps, but 1) they're illegal, and 2) they can overload the wiring loom. Not cheap
Ignore the trendy blue bulbs - they don't give as much light
(As for bendy xenon lights - well I was lucky - my current year old car came with them, and round the twisty dark country lanes they keep the light in the right place. But they're not on the essential list.)
