Yes completely agree.

It was just a touch of cynicism and making light of the thread. I've a dry sense of humour at times.

AC pump is kicking in and out and the air being pushed through is cold, I assume it functioning. The fan is running at full bat though if that's any help.

Sorry TT what engine have you got?

As originally posted by 960kg, in the event of this happening it is worth unplugging the MAF to see if it has any effect on the over running of the fan.

Usually straight after the air box there will be a sensor in the air intake pipe, maybe gatos has a photo. This sensor is the MAF - Mass Air Flow Meter that measure the amount of air being drawn in to the engine.

Now it seems on these Volvo's and with the great experience of 960kg he knows a failing MAF can cause this problem. To others the MAF would be quite literally the last place to look. If you unplug the electrical connection on to the MAF and then see if it make s any difference to the over running.

TT, I think the MAF failing and fan running on is more a trait of the S40/V40 range as opposed to the S60 but it is certainly worth a try.

I think however your probably more looking at needing the thermostat / temp sensor looked at.

I'll see if I can get you a pic of the S60 MAF.

Found the MAF, it's right next to the airbox. Unplugged it and it makes no difference apart from the car runs a little worse.... Plugged it back in again and the car runs fine again. Looks like a trip to Volvo for me...... AGAIN!!

Turn the aircon off and make sure windscreen demist isn't selected on the cooling control panel, is the radiator fan still at full speed?

When you turn the engine off does the radiator fan run on for a couple of minutes or longer?

With the engine up to temp if you go on the motorway/ A roads at speed does the engine temp dip down from the normal position?

If you can answer yes to the above change the thermostat as it is sticking open, the ECU monitors the coolant temp increase over time and if doesn't behave as expected it assumes something is wrong and pops the rad fan on at full speed, usually with a check engine light - Mike
