I've got to put my hands up here and say I ended up getting the work done at a dealer, I'm covering over 140 miles every day and the slow warm up and thus poor heating was getting rather frustrating.
The good thing is that the heater is much better now, once the temp gauge reaches 90c, it does not drop, even in traffic. I have averaged a calculated 45mpg over the last 1000 miles which I'm pleased with. The Volvo coolant is green and the part number of the thermostat I linked to in my previous post is correct although that isn't a genuine Volvo one. Last little issue to sort is a slight boost leak; I have noticed a small amount of black smoke on hard acceleration and the garage who serviced it did notice a bit of oil on one of the pipes near the turbo so I'll have a look at this one weekend. Thanks again for all the help. |

I've now done 10,000 mies since getting the car so thought I would update this thread; it could be useful for anyone who's in the same boat I was in when looking for an S60.
I have found it to be an excellent car for long journeys on motorways and A-roads; great seats with lots of adjustments to make it easy to select a comfortable driving position, a fantastic climate control system and a punchy engine make it a pleasure to drive. I don't feel fatigued even after spending hours in the car. I have averaged 47mpg (worked out using Fuelly). The car has worn 134k miles very well and looks immaculate when cleaned, also nearly every passenger has commented on the solid feel of the car. The only thing I wish the car had was more options on the trip computer - my Skoda had two - one of which reset automatically for indivdual journeys and gave you information such as the trip time, mileage, average speed etc. The other didn't reset after each journey and recorded information over a longer period much like the Volvo. Apart from the major service I had done when I got the car, in the last 4 months I had to have the ABS rings replaced as these were corroded and causing an Anti Skid and/or Brake Assist warning to come up, the slight oil leak on the turbo pipe only required a jubilee clip to be tightened. I also experienced the common issue of the ignition barrel seizing but thankfully I managed to sort this after reading about the fix on here. Oh and the headlamp washers don't work anymore but in all honesty I can't say I am that bothered as I use much less screenwash (standard headlamps). Unfortunately, the intercooler is now bowing slightly so will shortly be due for replacement and another thing I've noticed is the DIM/instrument cluster occasionally dims for no reason which I understand is a sign that it's on it's way out. Overall, I've been pleased with my first Volvo and fully intend to keep it going for as long as possible, it would take something completely catastrophic to happen for me to get rid. Final update on this; nearly 5 years later and at 237,200 miles, the S60 is now sold. I would have kept it for longer but I needed something Euro 6 compliant so it was no longer feasible to keep the car. I'm still in a Volvo, but this time a more modern XC70.
Over 5 years, apart from service parts and the odd suspension component, the only major work it required was a new steering rack, swirl flap assembly (which is now leaking from the inlet track, some 90k miles later) and an alternator. Before I bought the car, I remember reading a review in which the writer likened the S60 to 'your favourite pair of comfy shoes'. They were absolutely right. Thanks to all on this section of the forum for any help and advice over the years. Last edited by Dazza95; Oct 8th, 2022 at 18:23. |

people are too confused about the speakers. it's not hard.
SE comes with 9 speaker as standard HU850 with a 4x50W AMP. (High Performance) Optionally you can have Premium sound which is 13 speakers with a 4x75W amp. the simplest was is to open the boot (trunk) and check the colour of the label on the parcel shelf speakers. Yellow = Premium 13 speakers. Blue = High Performance 9 speakers
