[QUOTE=122 Canuck;1185359]Mmmmm, interesting! A bunch of aggressive drivers, are we?QUOTE]

I don't regard my driving as "aggressive".I just want to make progress as quickly as is safe to do so.People that just dawdle along A roads at 42mph probably regard themselves as good drivers.I don't,I think they are poor drivers and should get off the road.It never occurs to them to pull over and let people go past.Instead, following drivers have to take risks to get past. Therefore, they are actually dangerous drivers.
They might never of had an accident but I bet they have seen hundreds !!
The same goes for the idiots that insist on driving in the middle lane of the motorway even if there is virtually no traffic.I always make a point of undertaking them in the hope they might get the hint. They rarely do.
Where I live, there is a large population of retired people and country bumpkins that get a nosebleed if they go over 27 mph. They stick to 10 mph under the speed limit at all times, have no idea how to park and drive around totally blinkered to other road users.I have nearly been run over several times on the pedestrian crossing outside my house by people failing to see that the lights are on red.It is always some grey haired old biddy in a Nissan Micra.I have never felt endangered by a lad in an Impreza because they respect their cars and usually know how to drive.Miss Daisy does not.
Rant over......thankyou!!!!!

I am a bit of a Jekyl & Hyde...

Around town I stick to speed limits and let other drivers off first. I act the perfect gentleman and keep the revs low in residential areas. I am well aware that I am a bit of an 'ambassador' for classic car motoring. Where I live it's not worth risking upsetting anyone either.

However, when I get out of town there is nothing I like more than a jolly good thrashing!
My car has steel timing gear and lots of performance upgrades including uprated suspension. At a guestimated 125 - 130 BHP It's still no match for a proper sports car but a whole load of fun. I change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles and keep it in a tip-top state of tune. After the oil is up to temperature, I regularly hit 6,500 rpm. I LOVE the exhaust note -the car is so LOUD that other drivers tend not to compete!
'DOY' is a real Brittish 'B' road car. It responds well to being thrown into bends but has just enough grunt to have all the acceleration you'd want in a 60 mph limit.
My friend who is into big Yanks once said to me "very nice, but there's only half an engine in there!" A big Yank would just wallow all over the place on the kind of roads I head for.
Brakes are good too and have 'Green Stuff' pads -15% more efficient than standard - a good job too as there are lots of tractors down our way.
No where near as quick as the 20 V Fiat Coupe Turbo I used to have (0-60 in 6.4 secs), but much more enjoyable generally...

I drive mine as I would a modern car (B18 222 OD)..I've no rev counter so the noise tells me when to change gear! I tend to leave a bigger braking distance. I'm quite careful with checking the oil and water levels.. She steams along easily on the motorway at the legal limit so I think nothing of jumping in the car and doing a 150-200miles fast motorway trip.
