I utilised a set of eBay cheapo's on a Skoda Felicia a few cars ago; the kit came with the correct drill/hole saw to make the mounting holes and were finished close to body colour; they were accurate enough to believe the distance according to the intensity of the beeps and came out at about 20 quid; the only connection to the car electrics was the feed to the reversing lamps and an earth loop; I'd be wary of anything more invasive on the Volvo in case it interfered with or damaged any which would probably be expensive.

On my last car, an 8th gen Honda Civic there was a thriving enthusiast/modification network building add-ons; I had door mirrors which folded and unfolded on the keyfob button, as well as a reversing camera which was 100% indistinguishable in look and operation to the factory fitted item - but came out at about 60 quid instead of a grand..... makes you wonder two things - firstly how much Honda were buying their cameras for; mine was 20 pounds; the wiring loom from one of the cottage-industry enthusiast suppliers was 20, and I'd have change out of 20 for wire, shrink-wrap etc....

About the only thing that I've been disappointed with about Volvo ownership is the lack of enthusiast mods, and the way Volvo have 'bolted down' the capabilities to upgrade apart from thru' the dealer network at some cost.

I have an S40 SE LUX

i bought some after market reverse sensors for it.

This is the sensors i took the option to be painted to the colour of the car

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1814690916...84.m1497.l2649

this is the back of my car as i know bumpers differ

what a doddle as they say, i was worried about taking the bumper off

had not to worry as it was easy

and the kit was simple to fit, used the marks that are on the back of the bumper no problem

and with the colour coding from the e bay seller I think they look better than the standard Volvo ones.

WELL HAPPY

STEVIE A. Do you have picture of where you've placed the LED display inside? Thinking if similar kit with fronts as well.

I'm going to be getting flush sensors and just having a beeper and not bother with a visual display.

Very easy to fit.

Tips:

1. when you remove the bumper you will see 4 circles with a cross to show you where to drill the holes.

2. First use a small drill to make a hole in the center of the circles from the back of the bumper out to the front as a guide hole ( about 4mm )

3. Then on the outside put masking tape over the hole to protect the paint ( enough tape to be bigger than the size of the censer hole.

4. Then using the hole saw supplied make the hole from the outside, this will help the paint from splitting.

If you had to use the hole saw from the back you are at risk from splitting the paint as the saw came threw to the front.

.

How is it wired up to the sensors? Is there a cable that runs along the car to the front? Do you need to provide a power source to it?

Very easy, main box sits just behind trim at back lights, each sender wire (x4) runs to this box.

one wire runs to the front of the car for the display.

apart from that one earth, and one live feed from reverse light cable at bulb

that's it.
