I've been wondering this a bit and been meaning to try it. If I'm doing say a long run with some city driving at each end is it a good idea to use the time on the motorway to charge the battery back up or it that likely to end up being worse over all. I realise its a pretty theoretically question and I should probably just try it but I was wondering if anyone had literally been down that road before me!
Thanks ......
From my experience so far, it depends on what battery level you have at the time you are looking to charge. If you use only a bit of battery at the beginning and head off onto the motorway with anything over 75% remaining, it's probably best to use the battery hold function to give you that amount of battery at the other end for the in city part.
If you have used alot of the battery at the beginning, using the charge function on the motorway sections to get the battery upto the 75-80% it seems to stop at would be a good option to allow you lots of electric miles when you arrive.

It's all a learning curve with these cars and best to experiment yourself to see if it's a good option for you.
As I mentioned at some stage, I never used the charge function on my old T8 as it really affected the mpg but the new system in the Extended Range cars (18.8kWh batteries) seems to be much more effective and efficient at charging so I will likely be using it more on the new car.

2023My V60 recharge
Drove south from scotch corner to Wakefield on A1/M1 yesterday. Cruise @65mph, electric on hold. Reset the av.mpg before start. And after some 40ish miles Av mpg was 42.4mpg.
Happy with that. First time had used ICE, for any length as all current journeys have been circa 40/50 miles, so lecky...
Cheers Bob

It's great if they have finally got on top of the refinement issues - but the marque-wide 112mph limiter is a deal breaker for me - my 2018 XC90 will be my first and last modern Volvo - the last year without the speed limiter. I drive on Autobahns occasionally - no way I'm buying a car limited to 112 mph!

Is it just Volvo doing it or is it coming in across the board?

Just Volvo at the moment as far as I know - I'm sure there will be some legislation at some point.

PS there's been a legislated limit in Japan for years.

Nobody needs to drive at that speed on a public road, period. Other road users are the issue. And at that speed you're dying in an accident, irrespective of what the manufacturer claims!

I think you'll find it will become standard across all makes eventually, although no idea where they got 112 from?

Have re run this test on way back up home from Newark. This time averaged 39.4.
Also tried power mode + charge…same cruise speed, resetting av.mpg.. after 8 miles I had recovered only 3 miles and 6 after nearly 20…the av mpg showed 25.4.
I concluded I’d be lucky to recover 10 miles by the time I’d driven the 25 odd miles the av mpg was showing, and therefore I can see little reason to ever use the charge mode again. (25.4 + 10 being less than the 39-42mpg I achieved in power only mode and holding charge
Cheers Bob
