Not seen any OBD-II related software for Windows Mobile 7 as yet so I guess using your phone to scan fault codes/ reset ECU isn't going to be viable.

Yes the Haynes books are good for entertainment, one I have doubles as something to sit the PC monitor on to lift it off the desk by 20MM, not too sure when I last looked through it though.

Have you had any joy cleaning out the items mentioned so far in this thread? - Mike

No left it for today as I went tool shopping.. Wanted to treat myself to a decent toolbox and new tools so I went for a massive walk. Didn't risk going in my motor.

I'm doing it all tomorrow as I'll have a full day at it whilst listening to the footie.

Going to attempt the brakes at some point, hence the query about the Haynes manual.

Tony, They are simple to work on, if you need advice simply ask on here, you don't need a manual, just remember to look at the handbrake shoes as well as the pads as these can come appart and make a mess of the rear hub - Mike

I only have a Haynes Manual for taking things apart... it at least tells me how to get the part off!

I can normally figure out how it goes back together... as long as I don't get any bits left over at the end!

One thing you can try for free is to disconnect the negative lead to the battery. This will put the light out, but if there's a fault it will come back on.

As Luxo said, the only way to know is to get the codes read. The engine management light comes on because the system has either detected a fault or one of the sensors is faulty.

I'd say that it's absolutely normal for the car to drive perfectly well with the light on. But if you ignore it that will change. And don't forget, the car would probably fail an MOT with the engine management light on, and definitely with the SRS light on.

The sensors are measuring very marginal changes in fuelling and performance which the driver simply can't be aware of.

In it's 280,000 miles the engine management light in my V70 has appeared several times - but driving the car I've been hard pushed to tell that there's been anything wrong.

The whole point of the system is that it gives you a warning that there's a problem developing before it becomes a serious issue.

Cheers

Jack

I found out (at M.O.T. last week) that this only applies to vehs manufactured AFTER 2001.
2001 and previous are exempt that.

Have a question regarding the rear wiper on my V70..

If you look at the photo's that I've added of my rear wiper, there is a massive, open, gap between the wiper mechanism and rear window.

Is that how it should be?

Can I suggest you start a new thread for this problem? This is somebody else's thread where they are trying to solve engine management problems, and has nothing to do with rear wipers.

CHeers!

Ooops - fair cop.

OK, I've had that problem too, the whole wiper arm mechanism gets a bit stiff.

What I did (this is best done whent he whole thing is dry) is to squirt some spray grease/lube into the main pivot (the spring loaded one) to make sure it can move freely, and also spray a tiny bit onto the little "teeth" that grip the rubber wiper blade itself and then flex it back and forth so that it can move sufficiently to "mould" itself to the countour of the rear screen.

It may be that the spring in the main arm has become weak, I'm not sure where you get a replacement from, but the above improved mine no end, and it works fine now.

Hope that helps.
