Well, the warning (I suppose that should be caution) light was due to an O2 sensor fault. I was informed that my car had had the hose and EGR modifications when serviced in March but that the O2 sensor hadn't been cleaned then and this was why it had generated the fault code now. However, Volvo have full confidence in the modifications and I was assured that all will be well from now on.
Now it is a while since I operated a blown power plant in a professional capacity. Back then (1972) it was a 16 cylinder 2 row Bristol Hercules with a two speed supercharger and Hobson injection. I have moved with the times and my final engine before I retired was the IAE V2500 fitted to the Airbus. So I do know just a little about digital control and monitoring. I feel that what I was told today falls into the category of "Bovine Ordure" and I shall be mightily surprised if the Orange Turtle doesn't reappear in 4-5 months time. At that point I shall have a real go at Volvo. Exmpa |

Watch this space guaranteed if hose rework has been previously done and light came back on then it will reappear ,they need to do cylinder leakage test ,if it fails test then cylinder head needs to come off and inspect valves and seats .if they can't be reseated then new head required I'm afraid ..your not the only one with this fault

My wife took the V40 for a check and half an hour later the fault had been diagnosed and parts ordered. It will return this Friday to be sorted out and hopefully I can list the parts ordered and so be more specific as to the cause.

Car has returned from a service where the EGR was faulty and has been replaced. This was done free from Volvo - presumably as a known fault.
The garage were very helpful.

Well, right on schedule the “orange turtle” has reappeared! I am awaiting a call from the dealership to hear what they propose to do this time.

They clearly haven't got a clue what to do. Totally unacceptable. I would expect Volvo UK to get involved and assist you in swapping the vehicle.

Vehicle now booked in for two days next week. Dealership will speak to Volvo in the meantime.

Investigation revealed a small air leak due to an incorrectly clamped flexible pipe. This was assumed to be the cause of the reoccurrence of the fault (all the Volvo modifications have been incorporated). Discussion revealed that it is believed that the utilisation profile required to avoid this issue somewhat more demanding than that necessary to keep the DPF clear. If that is the case, then it would seem that a final fix is still some way off.
I fully expect to be renewing my acquaintance with the “orange turtle” before the end of the year! Exmpa |

Well, it’s taken a little longer than I anticipated but the “orange turtle” has reappeared today. This is the 6th occurrence so it’s back to the dealership on Monday. I don’t know if it is the previous fault; although I bet it is!; or a new one, but either way it’s not acceptable. This time I shall be contacting Volvo directly.
