cruise control
I recently purchased a secondhand cruise kit off a guy in Hastings in Ebay, who knows a lot about 850's and spends his time stripping them down
It was dead easy to fit to my p reg 850 along with some photocopied volvo instructions and consisted of fitting a new stalk, a missing relay, some vacuum pipe from a vacuum unit I put on a bracket under the battery tray through the grommit in the bulkhead to the actuator on the accelerator and two units on the brake and clutch pedals. It took me two hours and after checking all was ok I took it for a run gingerly down the motorway. I had to tweak the clutch switch but otherwise all was ok and I use it every day on my 3 am runs up the M2 to London. Never have I rested my right foot so much, OK its quite crude by modern standards but once youve got the hang of it you can cntrol it quite easilty using the + and - on the stalk. I have just bought an M reg 960 cheap on Ebay and I think it has the same system it is a s crude but now I wouldnt be without ! |

On 850s and phase one x70s, the vacuum bellows for CC are on the accelerator pedal (it's on the throttle spool on the older cars), while the pump is under the battery tray. Weird...
Let the scrap commence...I have, somewhere, a throttle spool and bracket for the vacuum bellows for a K-Jet car. Alternatively, you could make the brackets, or adapt the 'EFI manifold' brackets to fit. US-spec cars never had this manifold (as far as I'm aware...), so getting the brackets from the US will be difficult. Everything else (pump, pedal switches, stalk switch, computer, etc) can be had from eBay in the US. Almost all US-spec cars had cruise control. US-spec cars were pre-wired, but European ones weren't, so you still need a wiring loom (on a 740/940....most 960s are pre-wired). Luckily, it's very, very simple. You could easily make one using Migrator's pics (and maybe some connectors from a 960). The brackets for the pedals are still available from the stealership, and under £1 each, IIRC. There's a spooky story behind the K-Jet kit. I was in my local yard one day, and as I approached a 740 estate, still at quite a distance, I suddenly had a very clear thought in my head that "that car has cruise control". Now bear in mind how rare it is for 740s to have cruise...especially very 'boring' looking GL models...and sure enough, it DID. Once I'd got over how close I got to missing that gem, I pulled the kit, and was a happy camper... cheers James

Fancy parting with them for a price?

Would I have mentioned them if I wasn't? More to the point is...can I find them?
cheers James

When a mate of mine went to fit the cruise, I cant remember exactly what he said, but it was something about the vacuum pump, not having the right brackets, so i presume this is what i need Cheers mate Beer will be available freely for you when i can get my arse to the next midlands meet!

If you got an "EFI" kit, then yes, it'll be the brackets for the throttle spool and vacuum bellows (not the pump), which both bolt onto the inlet manifold.
As for price...well I ought to be mercenary, given the extreme rarity, and try to screw every last penny out of you lot via a bidding war...but I'm far too nice for that I dunno...I'm sure we'll work something out. I'm not greedy. cheers James

Both of mine are automatics. Drive up to 70 and then set it on (provided the traffic conditions are OK).
