I believe the Highway Code states that a manual vehicle should be left in gear when parked on an incline.

If i risked driving it home could the wheel come off if the bearing completely failed? Or could it catch fire as it was so hot it could fry a egg,do i risk coming home or find a garage up here by southport to do it?
Please any recommendations?

Hi

Had same problem, as best gear says think you will find or hopefully Volvo might that when cold the drums have not expanded and when hot they will as the shoes cause the heat binding.

By them adjusting the cable they have highlighted a problem, i had my changed in local drive in tyre and brake place, great guys and only charged £58 all in yes £58 all in.

Hope that helps!!

Drove mine with a wheel bearing noisey for 800 miles with a caravan on the back BUT the bearing was not any hotter than the others and until stripped out could not tell which one it was(Noise is transmitted and very hard to tell which bearing unless you get on a rolling road)

Was the noise a droning at certain speeds?

Wink

Hi thanks for your message, i looked at my laptop thursday night and found the volvo specialist in southport, i phoned them friday morning and the bloke told me to come right down, when i arrived i told him the rear passenger wheel was very hot, he put it on the ramp and found the front passenger wheel had the bearing noise, and the rear was only the brake binding, not to bad but said as it gets hotter it expands and binds, then i jumped in and he test drove it for 20 mins or so and told me to replace the bearing when i get back to coventry and replace the brake discs and copper grease new pads in the calipers, he was so helpful and did not even charge me, i wish all independents were like them, thanks again

Default Wheel bearing noise

Yes if you read my message on page 2 i put the vibration noise is bad after 60 mph, it does not seem to increase more, but can be noticed at lower speeds if driving around roundabout thus loading up the passenger wheel bearing if you listen hard enough
