Im gonna need to try and find someone locally who can do homers as i can buy all the parts and they can charge labour as ive only had this car since september and while i love the s70 and want to keep it, there is no way i can afford to keep sending it to a garage as who knows what will go wrong even after all this work.

The only hard bit is the rear bushed. The springs and dampers are very easy. As you say find a good local garage and get another quote. Also ask in the General and motoring section of this forum if anyone knows a good indy near you.

What evidence was there that the shock absorbers need replacing?

If they had had a hard life I guess they could have worn out, but if they are damping the movement of the car when you bounce each corner (the standard test that you see the MOT guys doing) and if they are not leaking badly they might be alright. I believe a slight trace of an oil leak would not be an MOT fail and would not affect performance, however a 'perfectionist' garage or fast fit type place may tell you they need changing if there were a slight leak like this when frankly there's no need.

Good plan to get some other opinions. I look forward to hearing what they say.

For interest, my two S70s (one of which is for sale by the way ) are both on their original shocks.

£200 and I know to most that is still pricey but the coil spring was about 20, bar link 12.50 and the arm was 80 and I was actually ever present while the guy was doing the work, ordering the parts and getting them delivered and can see how easy some of these jobs are if you got confidence to get stuck in!
