There are the replacements on eBay which might be worth a punt for the sake of £30 or so. Another moan which could be for another thread. The PCV was done last week, but the car still seems to smoke a little from the dipstick. The oil catch can was replaced along with various hoses, I have the receipt for the work. Is there something else that would be causing this other than PCV issues? New throttle position sensor ordered from Ebay - stay tuned!! Last edited by Pupbelly; Sep 9th, 2021 at 15:43. |

Was the oil filler cap or seal renewed? I'm not terrifically well up on the whitebolcks but if memory serves, they also have a sealed oil filler cap, you may also need a new "O" ring on the dipstick as well.

Not to my knowledge but that wouldn’t stop it creating smoke though would it? I thought it was meant to “breathe” but not sure where the fumes are meant to exit back into the system…..anyone??

It does on the red blocks, wouldn't surprise me if Volvo had ued a similar breather system, especially as it's a turbo.

I used to have an Opel Manta years ago. I had a huge issue getting it running right after some work, which was eventually solved....... when we realised one of the pins in a multi pin connector had pushed back into the rubber boot and so wasn't connected. It looked OK from the front, but that's because there were genuinely empty slots anyway. Hours and hours of root cause work, with a 10 second fix!

Carb cleaner purchased this morning, and I'll have a play this afternoon after work. Check all wiring, unplug, replug, clean the throttle body (although it looks clean) and just check "stuff". New throttle position sensor is on order so that's another episode for next week when it arrives! |

I'll update later or tomorrow. Managed to locate a unicorn reclining load cover so off to collect that tomorrow which is an hours drive each way. See it if kills or cures it!
Part supplier for the throttle position sensor emailed to check the model and reg number and have confirmed they have a part and is being despatched today so hopefully that will land early next week. Came to work in the Impreza today - night and day in terms of performance difference, so I really need to wake up the T5R!! |

This afternoon I decided to have a blitz on the vacuum lines to the turbo control valve, clean the throttle body, check and clean the multi block connectors to the turbo control valve and boost control valve to try eliminate the issues detailed in the other thread of mine about the orange arrow flashing which seemed to point towards a throttle position sensor issue. This involved removing all manner of hoses and tubes but the result appears to have made for a smoother initial start etc but I’ve not yet been for a run only up the street, but it does seem a lot happier for being cleaned out. New throttle position sensor may not be needed after all!!
So regarding the boost…. All vacuum lines replaced with silicone from turbo to boost control valve. Whilst I had the boost control valve off I decided to blow through it. Blowing through the ‘red’ line was hard work and gave a weak flow out of the yellow port. Likewise blowing through the yellow port gave a weak exit through the red. Should it be hard work or should it be a free flow? Or does the electrical connection shift a valve and increase the flow based on information from the car? Maybe the boost control valve is dodgy? Can anyone help please? I’ll see what it’s doing tomorrow as we’re out and about and taking the T5R. |
