Done the survey Tom, but I've got an "emotional attachment" situation going on at the moment that may potentially be of interest to you.
I've had my Volvo V70 for about 5 months, but my previous car is a 2002 Peugeot 406 HPi Executive Estate. I bought this car 6 months old in July 2002, so for a whole 10 years it was my pride and joy, it's been looked after, loved, polished and meticulously maintained. It was a very nice, high specification car when it was new and I always felt that the 406 was underrated as a vehicle, it was leagues ahead of the Mondeos / Vectras / Passats of it's day. Anyway, I'm rambling, the point of this story is that when I bought the Volvo, I put the Peugeot up for sale, agreed a price and a transfer date with a buyer, then the car decided to break down with a fueling issue a couple of days before it was due to be collected, so I had no choice but to pull it from the sale. Now, being a modern car (with a very rare engine) it needs diagnostics and specialist kit to repair it, and the only garage I've ever trusted to work on it is 40 miles away. With the car not running, not insured and not taxed (had to SORN it when I transferred the insurance to the Volvo), we're looking at transportation costs on top of the diagnostic cost and the repair bill which I'd expect to add up to around £400 - £500, money I really can't afford to spend on a car that I don't need, that's worth £1400 max! The next logical and easiest step would be to sell it as "spares or repair", break it myself and sell the parts, or even scrap it. But there's no way I could bring myself to do any of those to it, the emotional attachment is far too strong, she deserved to live on!! I know it's ridiculous and I should just bite the bullet and get rid of it, but I just can't! So it's sat in my garage, gathering dust and getting in my way... Hope that helps your study mate, and if anyone else managed to stay awake to read all that, well done! ![]()

I have completed your quiz. im not sure it really gave me the opportunity to say why i like my car so much.
I dont like it because its safe, or comfy, even though it is. it isnt even a decent handling car but i still enjoy driving it hard. the reason i love it is because its the underdog, it looks slow but goes fast. its so out of date in terms of emissions its funny. when its wet you cant use 1st or 2nd gear. i love it because of the journeys i have taken it on, if it had broken down on the way there it would have been even better, maybe not at the time. i love that it cost a fraction of a new car but does everything a modern car does, better. i love that its simple. It says im big and soft but when i want i can kill you all! Its the same with all my cars, you learn thier noises, how they handle certain parts of road, eg my clio's always tried to swap ends on wet roundabouts. but couldnt go through bumps without jolting my spine. which made it even more funny that my jelly suspensioned 850 didnt even know there was a bump there! i think we love the road, the car just brings out different parts of it. |

I've got 3 cars and a different emotional attachment to each.
One I hate, one I feel most comfortable in and the third I love but it would kill me if I let it. Perhaps we should do multiple entries. Cheers, Tony |
