Over here in France, you cant get a number plate made up unless you produce the carte gris (logbook) All our number plates must be riveted on too, making it harder to steal plates!

I seem to remember that there was a proposal, 8 or 9 years ago, to make it compulsory to use number plates supplied by local licensing offices and that it would be illegal to buy plates from any other source: I think that the plates would have also incorporated a chip, embedded with details of the car.
They were opposed by the motor industry, then quietly dropped by the Tories on cost saving grounds when they won the election. Most of those local licensing offices have now been closed. The present system does not work, and gives crooks every opportunity to avoid taxing their cars and to avoid speeding fines and congestion charges; something needs to be done urgently. As an aside, when I bought my last car, I was told by the salesman that they had recently taken a car in as p/x and found that it had not been taxed for nearly 2 years, despite being driven daily.

It's only gonna happen more & more with the ever increasing enforcement by camera.
Fuel Station Drive away's using false plates are fairly common although they do try to get a picture of the driver now as well. I don't think I've seen more than a handful of traffic police on the roads in the last 10,000 miles unless they've already been dealing with an incident. Excluding Camera vans BTW they're everywhere

Its such pure common sense that it kind of explains the caliber of the people in authority.

I think I said somewhere else: You cannot fix a social problem with a technological solution.
Reliance on technology is fundamentally flawed in so many ways. Anybody could drive my car, licensed or not, and it wouldn't flag any alarms anywhere because it's street legal. And judging by the poor driving skills I see, I wonder if this is happening a lot. Sometimes i'm following a car which is being so spectacularly badly driven, it's the onlyi conclusion I can come to. They've never had a lesson, nor taken a test! And nobody knows! Just remember, you are innocent until proven guilty. The onus is not upon you to prove your innocense, it's upon the CPS to prove your guilt. Don't ever forget that. You're also not obliged to say anything. You would be especially wll advised to say nothing at all until under caution and in the presence of a solicitor. "We just want a little chat" - go chat to someone else. |
