hi folks, looking at swapping over the stereo, didn't realise it would be so painful/expensive!!!

obviously Fascia is £35-50.

So if i am ok with losing parking sensors etc this would work?

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ct20...80-v70-c70-v40

But if I want to retain steering wheel controls and parking sensors etc, presumably this is all that's needed?

http://incartec.co.uk/volvo/2258/103...o/Browser.aspx

a fair jump in price

Why use components that will only allow certain car features to work when the CarPlay system (if installed properly) fully integrate with your xc90 MOST system. I can assure you the Pioneer SPHDA120 Apple CarPlay system http://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/sph-da120 can be installed so you can still use your existing parking sensors (and add a rear camera plus front parking sensors if you wish) plus have full use of the steering wheel volume, skip and telephone buttons. However, installation requires a specialist and if it's not installed correctly the cars MOST will reject the system.

Full supply and installation... including the SPH120, integration with existing rear parking sensors, the installation of new front parking sensors and a rear view camera (day and night vision) with integrated camera parking guideline graphics, costs about £1000 installed. A very good investment in my opinion, especially if you plan on keeping the car for a few years.

Just a few of things this system includes:
✔️Analogue radio and digital DAB radio (via free app)
✔️Excellent Satellite navigation with free map updates and real time traffic
✔️Full kwerty keyboard and postcodes
✔️USB media interface (for importing music, videos and customised wallpapers etc.)
✔️Full music acces on your phone, fully searchable
✔️Voice commands for every feature via Apple Siri
✔️Full integration with in car steering wheel controls
✔️iBooks
✔️Podcasts
✔️Spoken Text messaging, emails, diary / appointments etc. on the move (Siri reads them out to you as they arrive)
✔️Create new texts, appointments and emails etc via voice command while on the move.
✔️Many other features.
✔️Free lifetime firmware updates from pioneer.
✔️Free lifetime Apple CarPlay updates with each new iOS update.

As I've said previously, its certainly the best modification I've done to my xc90 and well worth every penny.

Apple CarPlay is being fitted in the brand new xc90 (2015 onwards) and new Ferraris as well as many other car brands. With that in mind Apple have a vested interest to ensure the free iOS CarPlay updates you receive work well and improve your driving experiance.

My other posts include links to the company that fitted mine in London. However, any car audio specialist will be able to supply and install the system.

thanks - i've already got a double din waiting to go in (a slightly older Pioneer unit with USB/DVD/rear camera ) so had hoped it would just be fascia and ISO connectors.

looks like i'll just have to swallow the cost and go for the adaptors the enable PDC etc.

Looks fantastic. How does the sound quality compare with the original OEM system?

I don't keep music on my phone but my iPod classic is brimming with nearly my entire collection, is it possible to connect and control an iPod classic through the Pioneer?

Nice install pal!
I'm now the owner of a 53 plate xc90 and looking for something similar. Just not iPhone specific. All our devices are android. So thinking these....

Just wondering, is there any way I can retain the use of the factory fitted sub at all?
Cheers!

No it isn't. However, put them all on a USB stick and you can access them that way through the pioneer.

Basically to use CarPlay you need to plug in your iPhone as it uses your iOS operating system.

The pioneer system CAN be used with an Android phone but you will obviously loose the CarPlay functionality as this is exclusive to Apple.... That means most of the features I've listed above won't work.

If you use the pioneer system with an android phone you'll loose all the beautiful and very practical features of Apple CarPlay.

However, looking at that Sony system in your link the pioneer system will still provide you with a far more beautiful and customisable Android interface. It's also completely flat and modern looking compared with the Sony Dim unit IMO.

Been doing some digging and it seems Pioneer offer Android Auto which is the equivalent or as close as I'll get to the carplay option.

Do you know if I'll be able to utilise the factory sub at all or is it easier to do a full custom install with an aftermarket sub and amp setup in the factory position? I want to try and retain the full sound but with a more up to date medium.

Thanks!
