Sometimes I think it's best to just cut your losses and move on so I'd be in the scrap the car and buy something else camp.
Probably a bit defeatist but life's short and all that. |

A hard choice, especially if you have a car you love and know the history of. I think I'd have to agree with you though.

If you do want to pursue the keep-and-repair option, and you have space at home, then the most painless way could be...

A D3 or D4 were about 2k + VAT. I'm assuming a D5 would be similar. They also quote £350+ vat to fit it

It was touch and go as to whether to scrap it, but I’ve elected to have a reconditioned head fitted. It’s expensive, but that way I’ll get the car back with new belts etc and it should continue a while longer.
Not sure it is the correct decision, but I looked at what I could get if I spent the repair cost + scrap value and decided I’d rather have my own car back, as something else may have equivalent unknown problems.

I guess I'm a pessimist as I know I'll fix one thing and something even more expensive will go bang! |

The warranty from Volvo would only be valid if the car was serviced by Volvo again at the next service. So cambelt done in April 2021 would have needed a Volvo service in April 2022 to keep the warranty running on the work from what I have read.
