  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Default breaks failure Volvo240

Hi Sanj

I am wonder if the breaks worked fine ever after? I have the same problem on my 240 recently.

Hope you are fine and still own and enjoy 240!

It is quite common for the internal seals in the master cylinder to fail, causing fluid to bypass between the two chambers but with no visible leak anywhere. Usually this happens during unrelated work on the brakes resulting in the system needing to be bled. Anything that causes the pedal to travel further than it does in normal use can run the seals over a section of bore that has surface rust from lack of use. This damages the seal, resulting in either gradually or sudden loss of efficiency and the pedal sinking to the floor.
The more you pump, the worse it gets.
