When considering a V70, worry less about the age and mileage, and more about the general condition and history.

In many ways a pre-99 (pre-ETM) car is probably a safer bet.

Be a little patient and the right one will come along!

Cheers Jack,

Whats ETM mean?

99 to 00 was the newist I was going to go because of my budget and the ruling the tax office has on big engines now.

I've got a few friends that brought v6 engined cars and love em but when they came to tax them found themselves in trouble lol

ETM = Electronic Throttle Module, google it if you want to be scared they are expensive. But a lot of cars have already had them replaced.

BTW can you get into/out of Whitby yet? I heard the A169 is closed.

Pretty sure I've hurd of them now lol.

As for the weather I'm not sure on Whitby as I'm in Egton Bridge but I've been snowed off work at the RAF base on the a169 so if ya coming this way take it easy.

There are a number of options with the ETM ranging from under to £200 to well over £750 depending upon what you end deciding on - my 2000 V70 cost me £330 to repair the ETM around Easter last year and it was off the road for four days! (Easy to fix if you remove it and send it away for refurb then refit it when you get it back a few days later repaired).

As for the car, with nearly 100K of service history missing and the general appearance would suggest the last owner didn't look after it too well, you would be purchasing a lot of work to get that looking anything like tidy.

£1500 to £2K should get you a 2000 V70 with decent spec, much lower mileage in very good condition.
Don't just look for 7 seater models though as you can purchase a seat and belts for the rear of the car as a seperate purchase and fit it yourself which might help with locating a car (the 7 seater optional seat is often listed on E-Bay, but they can only be used with rather young children due to a height restriction for safety) - Mike

Bit off topic here, anyway my avatar photo under my name was taken just out of Egton Bridge. If you go out of EB up towards the moor in the Goathland/Pickering direction when you get to the top of the hill there is a gate go through it and take the next left the road drops down to another gate and thats it!!

Hope you find what you're looking for.

Sweet, I was hoping I'd be able to do that. That way I've got more chance of getting 1 I like

and I see what you all mean I've recently found another I believe to be an early XC in a similar blue. It has 7 seats and AWD and the suspention looks a little higher than a normal V70 so I'm hopping that it'll still be there when I get the rest of the cash.

Be warned an uncared-for AWD V70 is a potential money pit of the highest order.

You'll find plentiful references on here.

Cheers

Just a warning, I have been hunting around for a V70 for quite a while, and saw this one at minimal three months ago, and its still on there. There must be something wrong with it for it to not have sold

Cheers,

bas
