Hello, What wattage soldering iron did you use?

Also, could you describe "dragging technique" a little bit. It seems dragging an iron along the row of connections (the pins along the sides of the CPU) would scrape the solder off the tip and bridge pins, no? Kira

I think the dragging technique "Relaxed" refers to is loading the bit with molten solder and literally quickly dragging the drip off along the end bit of cool pin where it goes into the board - its fast and gets round the need for a heat sink on multipin devices like chips. (if you do short the pins with the solder you can often scrape it off from between the pins with a point (or "borrow a fine nail file" when someone isn't looking)

There are plenty of videos on UTUBE on how to do it. Most use a tip known as a gull wing which is loaded up with solder. I chose to use a thinner chisle type tip with not much solder on at all. I'd agree with what ASt85 advises other than what I have just said but I would add that very little pressure should be used. Keep the iron moving and not in the same place! As a suggestion, I would go to my local scrappie and get any old control module that has Quad Flat Packs in surface mount form like the CPU in the DIM to practice on. Should cost less than a tenner since most can't be reprogrammed. Better to ruin that then the actual DIM itself!

Hope this helps

Use plenty of flux fluid or gell, and the solder will flow very well,if any solder bridges use some solder wick/braid and all will be good then clean with IPA
Good luck, Dave

Replace that particular bulb and see what happens. IIRC, all these are in the same place, so it may be that the bulb has gone.

Thanks, I'll have a look tomorrow evening. But Isn't the high beam warning a separate issue to the mileage and cruise illumination?

High beam working but the blue warning light not is one of the many failing DIM symptoms.

Yes thankyou. That's why I posted in this thread. I am going to get the DIM looked at. Other than this problem the car seems fine and drives like a much newer / lower mileage car

It was just a thought, and come to think of it, the little blue high beam indicator isn't in the same little panel as the mileage and cruise on word. Apologies fella's
