I'm just planning to move house (further South) when Dan finishes school in the summer. I'll certainly keep GAM, and I hope the Barge as well.

... so the Barge was completed on 29 December 1982! It is a 1982 motor car, which means it will qualify as an Historic Vehicle on 1 April 2023 (not 2024 as a 1983 motor car would have).

I am so pleased - it just snuck under bar and will be tax and MoT exempt a year earlier than I had expected.

Whilst this has been a fantastic development, it does place me in a bit of a quandary. The intention was for the Barge project to last for 18 months - until it qualified as an historic vehicle (I even wrote that in these pages). I had told Dan that as well. Now the Barge will be tax free in only 5 months time, the spring will be a good time to sell and the motor car will have doubled in value. The problem is it has turned out far better than I had expected and is a really nice motor car (so I want to keep it).

This is a nice problem to have :-)

I got a lovely surprise in the mail this morn: a shiny new V5C from those nice chaps at DVLA telling me the Barge is now registered as an historic vehicle: so no more tax!

The Barge must be the youngest historic vehicle in the country at the moment - being manufactured on 29 December 1982.

I'm going to celebrate the Barge being worth 50% more than it was yesterday with a nice cuppa.

I liked the Barge anyway Bob, but now it is tax free it is cooler than a big bag of cool things on a cold day!
