I could imagine it working better in moderns over classics given the heat transfer co-efficient as modern cars run much more efficient cooling systems as well as more efficient engines?

We now have much bigger radiators and CAD software that can simulate airflow through them, rather than Dave saying "lets put a radiator about... there and therefore it'll be this big" into a Dolomite Sprint / *insert favourite car from history that is deemed to overheat on a regular basis*

I was surprised when I did the engine swap on my 340. The 1.7 in it originally was a much more modern design that the 1.4 I had before it, but still single cam non crossflow. Both were stable as on the water temp gauge, always on the stat temperature and neither over or under it. When I put in the 2.0 twin cam crossflow version of the 1.7 into the car the engine always ran cooler on the motorway, underneath the stat temperature. I guess it just didn't need to work as hard to maintain cruising speed.

I still have my original Volvo manufactured water pump in my 940. It is only possible to get el cheapo water pumps now and many 940 owners are finding these after-market waterpumps are very short lived and unreliable. Just wondering whether it might be worth my while using this waterless coolant to prolong the life of my original water pump, I'm going to look into this, I hadn't even heard of this waterless coolant until now, thanks op Dave

There have been threads in 940 technical section going back a few years or so stating that Volvo no longer make them and all Volvo stocks have gone. I haven't asked Rufe though tbh, I ought to, thanks

Default Evans coolant

Just swapped my 04 c70 to evans waterless 2 weeks ago.
It is my 5th vehicle to runs evans.
BEST STUFF ever.

Previous swaps 97 bmw 318ti, 1992&1986 bmw K75 2000 bmw k1200lt bikes

This stuff is great, no corrosion
No pressure, even if a hose fails or is cut, the engine does not spill it guts all over.

And even engines with plastic and vulnerable cooling systems have zero issues.

In some it does run hotter, but will not have the hot spots that water can and does have since it forms steam inside at hot spots.

My 318ti has had it in it for almost 4 years now

one day the car will leak, the water pump will fail, a hos will split, whatever the cause. Waterless coolant is a lot of £ down the drain.

Default waterless coolant

I've been using this in My Volvo 940 2.3 turbo for about 15 years and no problems. It can get very hot in Spain summertime always copes well. I don't know why it is so exspensive in the UK. I use the Pink colour -37c to +145c.
Ok it's a 50% mixture but does a very good job and cost about 18Euros.

None of the Volvo's I have owned has ever been anything other than rock steady on the engine coolant temp front, no matter how hot the ambient temp or towing.

That said my daughter's Fiat Punto has just blown the head gasket and I am replacing the rad and rad fan and using Evan's waterless. The corrosion in the punt engine was terrible and the water jacket was very clogged up!
