Yes I did sort the timing. I set the pump timing belt tensioner and idler to a 'mid' position allowing equal adjustment in either direction, which took the dynamic timing figure off into the land of nonsense figures, smoke and poor starting.

I then got it to about +1 degree by moving the pump drive belt pulley relative to the camshaft by trial and error. Then it was easy enough to fine tune by adjusting the tensioner and idler until it was spot-on.

One of us could do with writing a Deseasel FAQ for these. Sorry I can't write that one, wouldn't know these if it bit me.
Yet it's a subject that keeps coming-up, often asking much the same questions.

Something short and sweet which will signpost all, to where more info can be found.

Then ask our beloved Idi Admin to make it a sticky.

Anyone?

Excellent idea CNGBiFuel.

It certainly would have been a great help to me when I was struggling to find informtion whilst sorting out the aftermath of a broken cambelt on my V70 Tdi. I wouldn't profess any particular knowledge or expertise but I do try to help where I can.

Yes, you are correct inasmuch as I often find myself answering much the same questions on a regular basis. There is a lot of good information already there on this forum but it can take some finding. If nothing else, a pointer to some of the more useful threads and a list contributors with expertise would be valuable.

I don't think I'd be the man to write it since my experience is limited but I'd be willing to add my twopenn'th to the areas I do know about.
