It backs up the looks in terms of how most things work - good quality switches, engine, suspension, ergonomics, comfort, space. It's easy to live with - no major quirks. Road noise is one thing they haven't nailed but there are a lot of luxury cars with horrid road noise. It's certainly not compatible with their image and it appears that they are trying to fix it. My dealer could not find anything to back the claims of new tyres and bushings news mentioned in our 20in thread though - only the old TJ with lower pressure and b pillar insulation. I hope the bushings bit is true. Tyres seem unlikely as it's a consumable.
Yes they are true premium brand cars, vastly increasing prices does not make a car a premium brand car. If Volvo sort out the problems with the XC90 they will start to catch up.

I must add the dealer "Mill Volvo" garage in Stockton on tees have been very good in deed.
Good on you, stick to your guns. I would not want to be paying more either. This will be one thing I will be checking out today when I collect mine. If Volvo are looking at the fix and looking after customers already bought, then that is ok for me.

Never did get any response on the official Volvo forum about this, after prompting many times. The forum really does not do Volvo any favours for their image. That is one of the first interactions I have had with Volvo as a brand after coming from Mercedes and it seems very amateur. If I have to contact Volvo about the road noise, I will give some strong feedback to them about the forum, but I am just one customer of many. Do you get a customer satisfaction survey or anything when you buy.

Or, are they simply not very noticeable?
Front DRLs are compulsory on all new cars and cannot be switched off.

On the XC90 (and I assume the S90) the rear lights will also come on acting as rear DRLs if the light switch is to Auto. If the light switch is set to off, only the front DRLs will illuminate.

Got a customer feedback form about the dealer, but not about the car, all other volvo cars I have bought did follow up with a feedback form about the car, when I used the volvo customer relations to complain they just pass this on to the dealer.

I have to conclude that they aren't very prominent then - the car did disappear quite easily even when I could see the lights of the car in front of it.

Are you referring to the rear lights? Perhaps the light switch wasn't on Auto.

In terms of the development of new tyres with sound deadening foam inserts, and the possibility of different bushes being available in the future, all I can do it re-itterate what my dealer told me.

Note that my dealer called me (well over a month, possibly 2) after assessing the road noise in my vehicle. They told me that in response to the technical journal they had raised with the factory specific to my vehicle, the factory had come back in response to say that new tyres with the sound deadening foam would be available in the future and different bushes might also be available further down the line. My dealer explained that the tyres would be replaced as a warranty item, probably towards the end of November and that bushes might also be available, but that was likely to be later than November, again as a warranty replacement.

And that's all I have. My dealer has placed a note on my account to chase and come back to me mid - late November. I cannot tell you more, but of course will do as soon as I know anything.

Perhaps this is just for the people who complain and push and there wont be a TJ issued, just done one the QT. New tyres does seem unusually generous for any manufacturer.....

I'm with you here. AB-UK said that the S90 passed him and then disappeared into the murk, so he must be referring to the rear lights. Perhaps it just had lights off...

Yes I think that's true and what I eluded to in the 20" wheel and tyre noise thread.

This is the V90 S90 and Cross Country Versions being talked about not the XC90
