Just received an e-mail from VolvoCars.com. They contacted their branch in France, who state that they know of no laws there prohibiting the use of headlamps in the daytime in good visibility. Cheer!

The saga continues. According to the French Government Tourist Office in Piccadilly, it IS ILLEGAL to drive in France with headlamps on in the daytime, but some French Police often ignore this violation, whilst others won't. So, we have been warned! Cheers.

But not with headlamps in dimmed/dipped mode. The dim/dip was introduced by European legislation many years ago so the French should not be able to repeal it for France only.

All the best, Peter

Hi Peter,
Maybe so but I have experience of being pulled by French police. Breathalizer test(spelling?) Came off a motorway and hadto blow in a bag at the peage exit. Drove up the road (the only single carriageway road) and was pulled in again by a blow in the bag team. The hotel was full so the only option was back down the same road only to be pulled in again by the same team. This was 3 o'clock in the morning and no traffic on the road!!! I explained that I had been pulled twice and pointed to the gendarme who had already checked me. Ah monsieur but you haven't blown into our machine!!!! They made me do it twice because the dial came up a zero zero zero zero. Very polite in all instances and Ive no objection to being pulled but in every instance a gun was pointed at my front tyre just in case I tried to drive away!!! I will give them points for thorough checking and at least it was a real policeman and not a camera picking motorists up for minor infringements. Cheers Nige

Hi guys, does anyone know whether headlights with wipers can cope with stick-on deflectors and, if not, what can be done about it?

I would say that they can without any problems. Had deflectors on several cars while driving in Europe and never a problem.

Got to admit that I didn't bother with deflectors when I was in europe last year, I just set the headlights to point lower than I usually would so they didn't dazzle oncoming vehicles (too much) and have the DRL's turned off.

Hello

I used these

and the headlamp wipers had no problem with them.

Given that I was driving through the Bocage at night, lowering the headlamp beam wasn't an option.

Side lights or DRL's are not headlights!
