I know this has been mentioned before but I just wondered as I have a V50 2005 with a 2.0D who does actually make this engine?....Ford or one of the french companies?

Cheers

Its a ford/Peugeot/Citroen engine but would expect in the Volvo it to have come from one of fords factories.

The engine is a cooperation between Ford and PSA. Volvo, being in the FoMoCo at the time, simply were allowed to use it - like Ford the T5.

At the same time, the engine is built in many different plants. Even in Skövde in Sweden. Depending on when built and how much demand was there, it could even be a Volvo built (made in Sweden in Skövde) Volvo 2.0d or a Ford 2.0TDCI or a Citroen/Peugeot 136HDI FAP.

It isn't easy to say. The only thing you can say is, that it isn't a Volvo design nor engineered by Volvo.

i wouldnt be surprised if volvo assemble it because volvo simply dont get all the problems with it that citroen / fiat / ford units suffer ... Not sure about other manufacturers versions as not familiar with those .

They do... That is what made me surprised... Mainly though for the EUCD cars (S80 II and V70 III) but they were really made by Volvo... Due to the high demand and the fact, that Ford were then upping their production figures at the same time dropping Volvos.

Look at how long you had to wait for a new D3 and D4 engine... I remember being told by my dealership (one of the best in Europe) that a 2.0d delivery would take about 5 months (this was 2008). A 1.6d about 3 months (2008 still) and a 2.0 petrol instant production and delivery (wait about 2 weeks!).

I own the same car... friend of mine works for Ford and he told me that the 2.0D version is basically a Ford Focus with a Volvo body fitted on it, a good thing in that he can service and update software for a fraction of the price Volvo charge... He also said that the 2.0D engine is very good too!

I very much doubt he will be able to update software for you. Volvo and Ford software are completely different.

You need a subscription to access Volvo Sweden servers to get hold of the updates for your car. Although it is possible for 'anyone' to do this it is the expense that stops people (££££'s).

The Volvo does share the chassis of the Focus but apart from that and a few FoMoCo parts not much else. Even the Volvo chassis is actually enhanced over the Ford too. So in reality they are fundamentally different but the 2.0D is a Ford sourced engine.

I asked a local Ford Independent garage if he wished to service my V50. He declined immediately citing software differences that made it impossible for him to diagnose. The cost of obtaining them would be too prohibitive.

Are all Volvo engines made by the French, including D5? As I've heard/rumours Volvo engines are made by the Germans.
