I think its a grey area with regards to the interpretation of the word "flushing".
Draining & filling the transmission or doing it via the oil cooler isn't flushing. Flushing is when you go to these transmission shops & they have powerful machines & add some additives to aid cleaning in the process.

I've come across a few in places that specialise in transmissions. When they start up, you can see the fluid going through the machine. Its a rapid process & you can hear the fluid gushing through, at what seems would be quite forceful pressure. Then they also add additives to help with cleaning. I would not fancy using a flushing machine on an older car with high miles, or especially on a vehicle with no records of a fluid change before. That's just preference though & whether they actually do damage or not is another grey area. Not a gamble I would take though, personally.

You'd recommend a trip to them?

Yes, depending on what you're after doing, as it were
I use a combination of Horton for the stuff that is Volvo specific and my slightly more local spannerman for things that need a non-branded hammer applying! For auto fluid replacement, all in one hit, yes, no question. it would be +/- £300 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNXHxKhwpxY Last edited by Bonefishblues; Mar 5th, 2021 at 14:09. |

There is no denying that the machine is really rather cool. But £350 is a lot of money! You could achieve very similar in the drive way in an hour for 60.
