I think from now on if I stop my car and hear the fan going full belt very loud, which is a sign regen was happening, I will get back in and drive somewhere I can get to 50 mph for a while.

In 20k miles I've never once heard or felt a regen happening. No loud fan, no slight rough running so not sure there's anything I could have done to avoid switching off during a regen or taking the car back out for a bit if it was doing one.

I don't think that's the problem, it's likely more the number of regens it's doing - or there's a fault with the DPF pressure sensor. I had that on a C30 which resulted in the same oil level behavior.

I do a 90 mile round trip to my office twice a week so it's not like I'm only doing short trips.

This will probably be my last diesel car.

You will not know until you do switch off, I have heard my fan running twice in 3 years after turning engine off, there is also a great deal of heat around the car. A DPF Regen light would be a great advantage.

Yeah a light or message in the info display would be handy.

I can tell (with some confidence) when mine is doing an active regen on a motorway, etc because the 'My V60' page stop/start 'button' in the Sensus display goes from green/active to grey/inactive for about 23 minutes (drilling down into the system menus gives more detail).

Another indication is an increase in fuel consumption. Somewhat unreliable as many other factors can affect. However, taken with the stop/start status change -who knows. A simple display message would be ideal but Volvo appear to be unwilling to provide

I must confess that I very rarely use eco mode.

In close to 18 months I’ve never “heard” my regen taking place. It’s a bit of a joke.

I am away with work at the moment and we’ve been given a 530e as a hire car.

It’ll never be as economical as my diesel but it’s been interesting to see how close I can get it. Over about 40 miles yesterday, mixed driving and with a low battery I managed close to 50 mpgs in it. It’s definitely an option for me.

Snap, so I've never knowingly switched off during a regen and still the oil level goes up...
