Probably highlights the value of flushing the autobox if you are intending to keep a car every 50-60k miles. Did mine using 3309 spec fluid as per instructions on this site and others and much smoother changes afterwards. The fluid was black and burnt rather than red when I changed it. Old fluid may have killed his gearbox?

Thanks for well wishes and the tip on the seat belt Ron. I'll check it out ... btw how does that work then? Does the seat sense when there is weight on it?

Yes, it has a pressure sensor and anything a bit heavier will set off the seat belt warning

Had my "54" D5 SE Geartronic from 14,500m and it passed 145,000m in February. Always had it Volvo serviced and, other than standard maintenance, no problems until ~ 90,000m when steering rack needed replacing, followed by steering pump around 20,000m later. One wheel bearing went around this time as well and the rear brake hubs needed replacing at around 120,000m. The turbo blew at 130,000m, the one and only time that the car broke down. The car did a mixture of cross country "C" roads (about 50m a day) and 1,000m trips down through France. Never had any problems with the AWD system, suspension or transmission. The car still drove like a dream and I had no doubt that it would continue on way past 200,000m.

Sadly, we wrote it off in France - but very grateful to Volvo safety systems.

Smile Done 160k miles

Well my has done 160k miles and still drives like new, yes full service history etc.

So as everybody has already suggested if it looks right and feels right do the deal on one.

Also this forum is a great help and always worth checking in to.

Good luck!

54 plate D5 owned from new 122K. nothing has failed to my recollection - possible rear bearing replaced under warranty during an early service. Md serviced. read this forum and convinced myself my AWD drive must have failed on this model. Checked at 115K - still fine. haven't had the transmission oil changed unless its part of service schedule so will have this done next time. Gentle driving, hardly any town use but some autoroute blasts to france and around 10K towing a van. still on my third set or rear tyres and 4th set of fronts.
regularly see over 40 mpg average cruising at 70 mph on 600 mile round trips to London.
seems like it is robust enough to go on for several more years - famous last words !

Stupid question, but when the seatbelt light came on, you didn't happen to have something on the passenger seat? I remember my wife when she had her car 1 day and went to garage angry about the seatbelt light... caused by her handbag on the passenger seat...

Good luck with getting the issues resolved

Hi, can I check whether there is somewhere specific you would recommend for getting the ICM repaired? At the moment, I'm considering buying a 2nd hand one to replace the faulty item. Thanks, dairees.
