Fair arguements on the mileage front. I think a middle ground of around 100 to 150k would be best bet.

You say who cares about miles if im changing engine, but the engines not the only bit thats gone around that many times, gearbox, diff, wheel bearings, brakes, drive shafts, suspension (up/down) door hinges, linkages, all left behind when engine has gone.

I've realised how handy an estate would be to me now & seen some very cool ones. So im now shopping for a 90 to 93 estate.

If the 2.3 LH2.4 1990 to 93 cars are not GLT, what are they badge as ???
(still learning, im new to volvos)

Thanks again

Simon
GL, SE or Torslanda. An SE is probably your best bet, they have the best levels of trim and kit as they were a kind of run-out special where a fair bit of "we've got it laying around" stuff was fitted (though it varies from car to car). Torslanda is bare-bones in terms of equipment, but has the snazzy GLT blackout trim. GL is fairly bog standard, average levels of kit inside.

edit: wear items: bushes will be knackered unless they've been done already. You'll probably want to go at least part poly anyway if you're building a fast one. door hinges are generally OK, except the driver's lower hinge, the checkstrap in which will be broken. They all are. fit one from the driver's rear door, they're the same unit. the boot hinges can show wear, but it;s not a common prob.

Rust is your biggest enemy, I'd take a car with a straight body that needs some TLC over a perfectly-maintained one with signs of rust. check carefully the floor pans, inner and outer sills, arches, rear upper shock mounts, under the carpet under the rear seat, and right up under the tailgate sill (this can harbour serious rust that the MOT man misses).

Bamses' videos are awesome when you're doing the work at the same time...obviously he is going way further than I am but it's good to see what can be done with these cars!

My base car is a K reg Torslanda, it's basic but that just means there's less to go wrong. The LH2.4 setup was ideal for the turbo conversion and the little things like not having electric windows doesn't bother me at all. It's all adds to the character of a 20 year old car.

The Torslanda stripes have come off now though, as has the black sticker trim around the windows and the plastic trim down the sides. I'm not a purist and have probably done a lot of things most people wouldn't dare to do but I'm going for the older look and cleaner body style. I've got bodywork and paint to look forward to once the engine is done.

I like the Torslanda stripes, although I may need to get rid of mine to get some paintwork done, but I agree, 240s look better with all the rest of that crap removed.

Literally type in "Bamses turbo underpants" into YouTube. Watch the first season, then the second one. The second season is still being released every few weeks.

It'd be crap...there would be 5 240 turbos and 85 other guys saying "I'll have a 240 turbo in a few months...I'm just trying to find a donor car"...
